I cringe when I see you post anything because I know it is going to bash the band the rest of us obviously all love. I know people can write anything they want here but I wish you would just go away. I am so excited for the new album but on the other hand as soon as it comes out I will read about how disappointed you are with it and how it could have been so much better if they just did something different that you would have done. I would love to take a listen to the albums that you have released so I can pick them apart. I assume you have released albums since you are so critical.
ahahaha this angry over someone you don't know on the internet ahahahah

Calm down. I'm just as excited for the new album as anyone here. Clearly you missed my posts in the other threads where I mentioned how much I love the new single. I also loved Now for Plan A and pretty much their entire catalogue (well, except for WATS and the EP). Anyone that knows me here knows I'm a huge fan of this band. Dig a little deeper and you'll find plenty of positive posts from me. The Hip have basically been the soundtrack to my entire life and they've been my favorite band for almost 30 years. Am I critical of them sometimes? Sure. So are a lot of other people on here. That doesn't mean I don't love the band and their music. I'm looking forward to the new album, and I really think it's gonna be fantastic.
This is the kind of restraint in response for which the internet is famous. Applause, direwolf.

I'm a huge fan and find myself in agreement with Dire Wolf more often than not. And here's the thing — even if I didn't, it's about discourse, and he's entitled to his opinion, and even more so when it's presented so articulately as is often the case.
And to be fair, if the Hip didn't let the tease play out for so long — we'd be discussing the album itself!
Can't believe its still over a month until this comes out

I feel your pain. They should just release it now and get it over with. We're living in an age where unconventional/surprise album releases are becoming more common. Promotion be damned. I wish the Hip had used Radiohead's recent strategy: release the new single/video and the full digital album all on the same day, and then put out the vinyl/CD versions a month later. Wilco used the same strategy with their last album as well. I don't know about the rest of the country, but the two new Hip singles have basically been ignored by the local rock stations here in Vancouver, so it appears the Hip didn't do themselves any favors by dragging this thing out until late June.
If it makes you feel any better, Case/Lang/Veirs seem to have taken the same approach as the Hip to their 'supergroup' release.
It doesn't matter to me, really. Would we be happier if they'd sat on the single until June? What's the difference?

I think it definitely would have been cooler if they had just sat on the entire thing until June and then hit us all at once on the 17th. Bam, here's the new album! It would have blown our collective minds for sure. But overall, yea, it's not really that big of a deal I guess. Only a month to go and then we can all go nuts dissecting the record.

Good job, Hip!

This is going to be such an amazing experience and unique thrill to finally hear this album. The first two tracks are great.
I have been waiting so, oh so long for the new Tragically Hip album. I may be the most biased 'critic' of their music, as ever since high school, it seems I could never find material that I did not want to hear and did not want to treasure. 1000% my all time favourite band.
What this album is going to mean to me, and where its gonna take me, I don't know. But after all of this, all of these years of loving everything about this band and listening to the music that these five guys have recorded, I know that everyone in this band wants us to have this album.
I cannot wait to listen to this for weeks and weeks on repeat when this comes out, because that is what I have always done as Hip fan. I know that there are some of you here who are the exact same way. I have memories of every single album release day since I fell in love with this band. Fell in love after IBE and the rest is history.
World Container - Fall 2006. I definitely cut my morning class to get this at HMV on Spring Garden road in Halifax. All while posting here on Hipbase and talking to so many people about the songs, and the promotions, and the tv appearances, and the tour etc. etc.
The ensuing tour, I saw the most shows on a single tour I ever have. This album is a huge part of me. The first 'new' Hip album since I became maybe just a tiny fanatical.
I won't bore you with other 'release day' memories.
I was just thinking that for some of us here, this album may be just what we need throughout this. And I kind of like to think that all five of these guys in this kick-ass, crazy little thing that took over so much of my life, want us to have this to.
The new Tragically Hip album is released in 22 days, and I cannot believe the wait is almost over.
With tears in my eyes, Tired as Fuck just made me grin like the Grinch and I cannot wait to celebrate another release from the best fucking band in the whole goddamn world. Fuck yes , I can't wait to hear this and rock the fuck out to this. Listening to The Hip has always brought me joy beyond words.
22 more days folks. I guarantee this album is going to be masterpiece.
Fuck yes boys. Lay it on us. I may need this album now more than ever. And bring the down fucking roof at every single stop on this tour. Love yas.
C'mon Hipbase! We gotta celebrate this album unlike any Hip album we've celebrated before.
pre-orderd the white vinyl this morning
21 days! I really hope this streams somewhere before the release date. Boys have been working hard for a while now and its going to be so good to hear what all five have been cooking up.
With 21 days to go, we have heard 20% of the album. I love everything we've been teased with. I am the worst Tragically Hip critic though. I lost objectivity with this band years ago.
01 - Man
02 - In A World Possessed By The Human Mind
03 - What Blue
04 - In Sarnia
05 - Here, in the Dark
06 - Great Soul
07 - Tired as Fuck
08 - Hot Mic
09 - Ocean Next
10 - Machine
I love this whole 'Man Machine Poem' concept. Man to open, Machine to close. I loved the song on Now For Plan A, but of course I love every song on Now For Plan A. I wonder if there is any other connections between 'Man', 'Machine', and 'Man Machine Poem'.
A new Tragically Hip album release day always feels to me like a National Holiday.
I can't wait for everyone in this band to blow my minds and let the music do the talking.
I wonder if what we're getting June 17th is the same exact album and song sequence that was tentatively supposed to come out last fall? I know it was said in the press conferencce that the album was written and recorded before the diagnosis, but I just wonder if any songs were switched around in the track sequence or maybe a song or two that previously didn't make the tracklist is now on there or maybe one or more was removed.
This doesn't seem as important to me as it did before May 24th of course, but I just wonder about these things and whether we'll ever know if any changes were made. Also wonder if we'll get a full explanation of the Dougie Stardust title situation.
Starting to wonder if the album will be selling out on the first day. I normally don't pre-order because it's easier to stop by a store than deal with shipping.
