On the first listen, every note is wrong, every line is stretched thin and thick in the wrong places, every lyric is beside where it should be, everything is out of tune like 4 guys were making a song and one guy was intent on reciting his poem no matter what.
On the second listen, it is perfect and it makes sense.
Sort of like Bowies blackstar. It does have similarities and I'm not suggesting anything but that
Which would've made the Dougie Stardust title choice even more interesting.

You mailed it
Its sounded so weird on 1st listen I almost skipped it and said oh well.... then on the 2nd Listen it sounded all different, like i had to adjust to take it on.
4 th listen its a crazy creative tune
One listen down, and I am definitely intruigued.... Will take some more listens, but I'm liking it. Great Soul and Ocean Next were first listen standouts (from the songs we hadn't already heard). Like nothing they've ever done before.
Album is available on Spotify this morning as well
Listening on Spotify as I wait for my CD by snail mail. I absolutely LOVE it! Stand outs so far: Great Soul, Hot Mic, In Sarnia. I love how its so Hip, but so Gord too. But its a bit bittersweet to listen to though and making me a bit sad as well.
Just as a heads up, it's now on Google Play as well.
Gord's voice sounds absolutely incredible and Johnny Fay is a beast on this album!
Put on headphones this morning and hit play - I love it.
Like others have said, different but still Hip. Love the melodies on guitar - mostly understated but just right.
First pass was awesome and looking forward to several more listens today.

Day For Night, matured by 20+ years, traveled to outer space to meet Trouble at the Henhouse, drop acid, fall in love, and conceive this masterpiece.
This. Absolutely this.
Played it three times on the drive from Orillia to Burlington last night. Got better with each listen. What Blue, Here, In The Dark and Machine stood out right away.
An aside. I was in Burlington for first night of Sound of Music. It was "Pretend You're Back In High School Night," featuring Soul Asylum and The Killjoys. As my buddy and I were walking back to our cars, we took stock of what we just saw. Unsurprisingly, neither of us were all that impressed by the bands at this stage in their careers (although, I was shocked by the number of Killjoys songs I can still sing every word to - stupid CanCon). Third song of the night for Soul Asylum was "Misery."
"That's probably my favourite Soul Asylum song," I said. "I remember it being all over the radio the summer I first got into The Hip. To think, there was a moment where I was an equal fan of both bands."
He looked at me for a second. "Boy, did you ever make the right choice."
An album like this - so challenging yet so sonically pleasing, some 30 years into a career - solidifies just how great of a choice that was.

Anyone else hear a little 'Under Pressure' phrasing in the middle of Hot Mic?

Thanks for the LOLZ this morning!
I am REALLY digging the sounds on this album -- the overall tone, mix, flow, and individual tracks add up to something really special, I think. Just started my 2nd listen through this morning ... man, I am REALLY loving what I'm hearing. Sounds new and fresh, but fundamentally HIP! I hope we get to hear a lot of these songs this summer ... :thumb:

If - if - this is the band's swansong then it's one helluva mic' drop.
First run through.
Man and In Sarnia are just ridiculously beautiful.
and Machine is an absolute stunner which will just slay live.
I'm waiting on the vinyl, but love reading the first impressions -- I do like that the band sell a lot of copies of what sounds like their most experimental album. Sounds like lots of people who last bought Fully Completely and get caught up in the nostalgia will be scratching their heads trying to figure out what's going on.
