I just logged onto maplemusic and discovered that they processed my April 10th order on June 22nd!!!! How is that possible?!?! Grrrr..... :nooooo :rambo: Probably won't have the album until July!
They sent me a confirmation e-mail just now that it shipped today.... wow... I'm sure they are busy but 2 weeks after the release date they ship it?? It's not like the shipping to Taiwan was cheap...

Gord's dad died last fall.. if he was sick before passing, it'd probably fit the timeline.
Didn't he get a divorce too?
Yeah, to me a lot of the depressing lyrics touch on a troubled relationship/struggle with being in love. I know Gord's wife had breast cancer, too...
The divorce was a rumour. I confirmed with a rep at Universal that they are still together
God...his wife has breast cancer, his father dies, now this diagnosis.

What a terrible past couple of years for Mr. Downie.

I have to imagine this was an extremely awkward phone call.

That's good to know. I remember the rumour started when the house in Toronto was up for sale.

I have to believe they are kindred souls. We met him and his wife walking their kid in a stroller the afternoon of a Boston gig in a nearby park. They said hello to us probably because we had just bought a small Canada flag and my wife had wrapped it around her purse. Very casual conversation, mostly about kids and how much we all liked visiting Boston. No hint of a rock show happening a few hours later, they left as if they were going home to cook dinner.

Just another day at the office. I like this story.
I also like the story about the couple who were running late for a Dave Matthews concert and saw some cyclist on the side of the road with a flat tire. So they stopped to help and give him a ride, and it turns out to be Dave Matthews.

I've done a complete turnaround on In Sarnia.

Because of hearing it live, correct?

That's a large part of it.
Ok, we've all had some time now to absorb the new album, and we've seen a few of the songs performed live. As per usual with late-period Hip albums, the reviews were mixed during that first week of release. So where does everyone stand now? Do you still love the album? Do you still hate it? I'm curious to read the responses, especially after these first 4 shows of the tour.
Personally I'm enjoying the hell out of this record. And the more I listen to it, the more I love it. On release day I proclaimed that this was their best work since Phantom Power. After immersing myself in it for the last month and having some time for it to sink in, I can honestly say that I still firmly stand by that statement. I said it earlier in this thread and I'll say it again: this is exactly the kind of album I've been wanting them to make for the last 15 years. I think it's an incredibly focused, powerful, beautiful, and bold statement from a band that's clearly not finished. Not even close. If this does end up being their swan song, then I'm glad they're going out on such an artistic high.
I was really into this album almost instantly, but don't spend much time listening to it now.

Couldn't have said it better myself! I love it. I loved it almost immediately, and probably like it even more now. It's a masterpiece. In the rank the album thread I think I had only TATH, IVL, M@W and DFN ahead of it, and at this point I might be inclined to move it higher.
This is the bst of the last four certainly
Im loving it
