thats probably what'll happen, but if that is what they decide to do with it, they'll probably lose tons of money becuase people would stop using the site in droves.
If that IS what they decide to do with it, there will always be someone out there who is willing to produce the next "youtube" and like you said, everyone will simply switch over...
google announced that they are buying youtube today but i am not sure if it's a good thing yet...we'll have to wait and see.
