Canadian girls kick ass!! :thumb: :jump

i also liked his speech about he's fed up with the nhl players, and hockey canada whining about the pressure to win...it was a very heartfelt speech, and i don't usually like the guy but what he said really rang true...

you don't usually like brian williams? how could you say that? he's the classiest guy on tv... oh well, to each his own i guess

I dunno, he opened this games by saying that Canada doesn't have a culture of winning. That's a slap in the face to all Canadian athletes, courtesy of a man who's made a career out of sitting on the sidelines.

Oh, yeah, classy way to kick off the games: by saying that Canadian athletes are culturally incapable of winning.
MVP of the 2006 Winter Olympics for Canada: Cindy Klassen. Klassen is the hero for Canada. :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:
My hero for the day: Mark Nichols

Man, he didn't look great in a few matches in the prelims (curled under 60% a couple of times) but he was spot on against the USA and Finland. I am still marvelling at that shot in the 6th end today.
As Russ Howard said after winning the Olympic Trials, "LORD THUNDERIN' JAYSUS!!!" What a performance by Gushue, Howard, Nichols and Korab. The party will be going deep into the night in Newfoundland tonight, and the screech will be flowing freely! Man it must be great to be a Newfoundlander today!

ya that was an unreal performance by him today, if it wasn't for him they never would have come close to scoring six in the sixth end. curling 97% is incredible.

I'm not an great curler but scoring six in one end of play is pretty damn incredible!!!!! Almost damn near impossible! Great job by the Newfs! :thumb: :thumb:

22 medals? Did somebody forget to tell us how small a country we are? If you did the per-capita numbers, in dollars and people, of the two nations ahead of us (US and Germany) it'd be even more impressive.

Who needs the millionaires?
canada is kicking some serious ass today!!!! only one medal away from our pre-games goal!!!

What a great performance by our athletes! With some of the whining that was going on around here with Canada's slow start, it's nice to see our athletes - particularly the women - come through. Unfortunately I think too many people will remember these games as the ones where the men's hockey team didn't qualify for the medal round, rather than the games where our athletes had their best medal haul in history. I hope I'm wrong!

Anyway, nice the see the Czechs bounce Russia and win bronze in hockey. All of the media experts were calling Russia the heavy gold medal favourite after they bounced Canada. Guess not! One thing is for certain, the skill level is so close among Canada, the Czechs, the Russians, the Swedes and the Finns that I don't think we'll ever again be able to say there is one dominant country among the bunch when it comes to men's hockey. It is simply a matter of who played best on that particular day. While that may be bad for Canada's pride, it's great for the game. Besides, these Olympics have proved that there are plenty of sports that Canadians excel at. Go Canada Go! :thumb:
well...i guess avril was at the closing ceremonies just to see how many times she could sing "yeah-ah...yeah-ah...yeah-ah.."..what a joke
