Are you using the free version of ZA? If I'm not mistaken, ZA free won't allow you to open specific ports. I hope I'm wrong though. I used it as well and dumped it for that reason. Great FW though.

I think you're right. Checked with my brother and it's the free version. Shoot - ok well at least now I know it's the program and not my eyes that are causing the problem.

Quote:Hmmm...maybe the free one doesnt have that function as hipkid says. Not sure. We use the full shebang at work. If you have Windows XP and SP2 you might want to dump the ZA and use the firewall within, which I'm told is pretty decent for what it is. And it allows you to open ports as found here:

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=http://support.microsoft.com:80/support/kb/articles/Q308/1/27.ASP&NoWebContent=1">http://support.microsoft.com/default.as ... bContent=1</a><!-- m -->

I don't think you are any less protected with that than with the free ZA. Maybe some techies can let us know for sure?

I have Windows XP - what's SP2?

Thanks for the help guys :thumb: :thumb:
SP2 is Service Pack 2. Microsoft has made XP more secure and it includes a more robust firewall than the original XP. You might already have it if you use the automatic update feature of XP. I'm sure it can be found at microsoft's site. Alot of people will tell you that it messes with alot of your programs but I have had no problems with it. But I'm not much of a power user at home so who knows.

Hope this helps!
Okeedokee - I'll be sure to check it out. Thanks for your help - really appreciate it. :thumb:
Hey everyone,

The tracker is off and running at a great pace right now, but I have one nagging problem. It seems that there are some users of AOL who can't download/connect. They can log in, and download the .torrent files; but they can't connect with their BT Client software.

Any help is appreciated.

Yes, please help! I am one of the unfortunates that Chris is describing. There are so many great bootlegs and DVDs on the tracker that can't be accessed by AOL users.

It's like a bad dream: I am in a restaurant, starving from hunger, but I can't order because they won't accept my foreign currency. AAAAUUUGGGHHH!! Wake me up! :nooooo
Hugh23, I use Compuserve alot, and it is pretty much AOL.
I used to sign on through Compuserve, then I just used IE for anything else.
If you have a cable connection, which if you are doing BT's I assume you do, couldn't you just click on IE and use that? Instead of ever starting AOL?
I know there are things Compuserve would not let me do, but then I just used the other browser.
Or you could always download Firefox or something if you do not want IE.

I do have a cable connection and I will try your suggestion of logging into the tracker by using the InternetExplorer. Thanks for the suggestion.

Dana, thank you for the great suggestion you made above. I am currently d/ling the Toronto DVD. This is my first experience with the tracker and everything is going nicely.

Thanks to Chris for keeping the tracker up and running. :thumb:

Thanks again Tthip(Dana) for the tip on using AOL with the tracker. Just logon to AOL as you normally would and leave it open. Then use the InternetExplorer to access the tracker. I am having none of the problems I had before.

Hi all,

AOL does weird things with IPs. When you are connected to the net via AOL, you do not get one IP. Your IP will vary slightly while connected.

I check our company's web hits, and in the log, the AOL hits all look the same... Something like (these are made up):

24.91.123.32
24.91.123.31
24.91.123.28

This is the same user session of the site and the IPs all trace back to AOL.

So... If the tracker (or BitTorrent) needs a set singular IP to work properly, AOL users may be SOL. If this is the case, I'm not sure what kind of workaround could be used to fake the tracker or BT into using the shifting IP.

Hope that helps,

Jerremy
Hugh - glad it worked.
One last thing.
Since you are on a cable connection, and always connected - you should not have to start/logon to AOL to access IE.
IE should automatically connect through the cable connection just by opening it up. The only time I ever open up anything other than IE is to check some mail.
Just wanted to post up, and say a great site Chris!
