hey folks
hope all is well.. I'm going to start uploading as much as I can to this bit torrent thing.. I finally signed up.. I've got a LOT of goodies to give up..
I'm going to start with some 1998 Alan Moore recordings.. those are some of the best shows ever recorded period.
hmmm.. I'm having issues uploading.. can someone email me to let me know how?
Here's a simple how-to that I wrote for creating .torrents and seeding:
1. In the folder that your Bit Torrent client downloads new BT’s into, create a new directory into which all of the compressed (FLAC or SHN) files will be processed. Name it “YYYY-MM-DD – City Name, Province/State (substitute the details pertinent to the show your will be seeding)”
2. Create a text file that contains the details of the source/venue/equipment used/person who taped show, and a complete setlist. Name this file “YYYY-MM-DD – City Name, Province/State (substitute the details pertinent to the show your will be seeding)” and save it into the directory created in step #1.
3. Start your compression program (FLACer, xACT, FLAC Frontend, etc) and select the audio tracks (WAV or AIFF) that you want to compress.
4. Choose the folder you created in step #1 as the output destination, and compress your audio.
5. Start your Bit Torrent creating software.
6. Choose “Create a Torrent” or similar.
7. Select the directory you created in step one as the folder/files you want to torrent.
8. The tracker/announce URL is “http://tracker.hipfans.com/announce.php”
9. Save the torrent with a file name that is identical to the folder name you created in step #1.
10. Log on to http://tracker.hipfans.com and select “Upload Torrent” from the menu.
11. Choose the torrent file and the text file you just completed and enter a basic description.
12. Select a .torrent type and click the “Upload .torrent” button.
13. Finally, in order to seed your show, start up your Bit Torrent client application and open the .torrent file that you just created/uploaded to the tracker. It should take care of itself from there...
Okay, to make sure that things went well I created 1 quick torrent for the 08-12-98 Radio show... let me know how it turns out... I've got a TON of master copies etc of shows that I'll seed once this seems to be working out.
It's working great for me Peter!
I created a torrent for the 1998 Milwaukee show, and I think I uploaded it, but I don't see it on the tracker. I have opened my Torrent software and I'm ready to start seeding.
Edit: I see it there now, so come and get this gem people...it really is a sweet boot.

I have uploaded the Dec 12,98 Milwaukee show already. I originally got it from Alan back in the day.
source is wrong on the 12-12-98 show..
it's actually a soundboard show which came directly from Mark V.
This will nicely replace my MP3 copy pulled from thehip.org...Thanks Billy!
GET THIS SHOW!!!!!! One of, if not THE best shows ever recorded (quality and content wise)...
"Go Bucks!"...
M.
PS - Peter, good to see you're back! Can't wait to see what else you've got hidden away! :thumb:

The reason I put this as the source is because I have seen it listed as that by a few other people. Back when Alan gave it to me he told me he got it from someone in the Hip's entourage (couldn't remember if he said Mark V. or Jake Gold himself) and that it was soundboard. He wouldn't give me anymore info than that and told me it was a treat to him (wouldn't say why they gave him this treat) and that he wanted me not to trade it...which I didn't for many years until I saw it popping up all over the place, and I then asked Alan if it would be alright to trade it. Anyways, I know he had a MZR30 Minidisc player that he used to record stuff. Infact, I believe he lent it to Rory to tape the Saskatoon and Winnipeg shows from the PP tour. When I started to see this as the source, it made sense to me that perhaps he plugged his MD player right in to the soundboard.
At any rate, this is the real deal show, ripped right from the cd's that Alan gave me.
Does Alan come around these parts now a days?
Ok guys, and Chris in particular. I have some great sounding shows by bands that have at one time or another been associated with the Hip. I'm wondering if you guys would like me to create the torrents and upload them?
Blues Traveller - 1989 - fantastic quality (SBD)
Wilco - 2001 - fantastic quality (SBD)
Los Lobos - 1999 - fantastic quality (SBD)
Go right ahead
Please use these acronyms:
BT = Blues Traveller
Wilco = Wilco
LL = Los Lobos
There is a reason behind my naming conventions and requirements, and they will alll make sense when I install the new software.

Done and done. Give me a bit of time and I'll get them ready and uploaded today if all goes well.
I figure this is the least I can do to contribute to the greater good.
I realized last night that creating a torrent is really quite easy. Get busy guys!

I've actually borrowed his stuff as well, and when he finally got rid of all his DAT tapes and DAT machine I ended up buying that off of him as well, but needed to sell them eventually.. to someone on the list here...
