Let us know what bands/shows you've been to see recently, Hip and Non-Hip, and what you thought...
Last night I saw
Ben Folds at the Hammersmith Apollo. As always, it was an amazing show. That man was born to entertain, and entertain he did.

It's the second time I've seen him now, and he pulled out some songs that he didn't play last time, including 'Underground' which was the song that got me into the band over 10 years ago! 8) The highlight of the night for me though was the suprise cover of 'Such Great Heights' by The Postal Serice - Two of my favourite acts combined! It doesn't get much better than that. Here's the full setlist:
Intro Jam/Misirlou
Trusted
Synthesiser Jam - Pt. 1
Gone
Freebird/Really Good Curry
L'il Red Keyboard (Synthesiser Jam - Pt.2)
All U Can Eat
Learn To Live With What You Are
Jesusland
Bastard
Still Fighting It
You To Thank
Losing Lisa
Landed
Bitches Ain't Shit
Fred Jones Part. 2
Evaporated
Gracie
Last Polka
Narcolepsy
The Ascent Of Stan
Army
Such Great Heights
Kate
Underground
====
Zak and Sara
One Angry Dwarf and 200 Solumn Faces
I taped the gig as well, so if anyone's interested (and chris doesn't mind) I could share it through the tracker once it's edited
Cool stuff Ben! And good idea for a thread.
And I'm fine with it being shared...
Oooh! That's a very nice set list. I'm a huge Ben Folds fan. I'm glad that you got to see "Fred Jones Pt. 2" live because it may just be the most heartbreaking song ever. Ben voice plus his work on the keys...fabulous. "You to Thank" and "Learn to Live With What You Are" also look like highlights.
I hope you had a great time! :thumb:

Excellent! Thanks, chris. :thumb: I've listened the mini-disc through at work today, and even the raw recording sounds pretty good.

It might take me a while to edit, but I'll be sure to share it around when it's done.

I did have a very good time, thanks Jenna. I remembered that you were a fan, which was part of the reason I started the thread. 'Fred Jones Pt. 2' was beautiful, as was Gracie (That song always chokes me up - I'm not sure why.)
Sweet! I'm a huge Ben Folds fan as well - glad to hear it was an awesome show. I've only ever seen him in concert once - back when he was still carrying "the Five" in Vancouver. He never comes to Calgary.
I've heard his version of Such Great Heights -- it's golden.
Ben Folds Five and Rage both came through Toronto on their last tours, and I missed both shows. I was a huge Five fan in high school and a lot of my friends just didn't get them. It's cool to have people come up to you and say, "you were right on about that band"
I concur that this is a great thread idea. Upcoming for me this weekend is two nights of Elliot Brood. The Brood are similar to Cuff The Duke/The Saddies in genre, and apparently put on as equally as entertaining a live show.
The Golden Dogs (the best touring band in Canada today) are also back up here next month. With 8 issues left, I need to play the editor card as much as possible to get into all the free shows I can.
Cheers,
Pat

Yes! It was an AWESOME show.
Man, I can't believe how many of the same concerts you and I have been to.
I saw Elliot Brood open for Corb Lund last year...very interesting band, Death Country is what they describe their genre as I think
I'm seeing Ray Lamontagne next week... looking forward to it, especially as Leona Naess has been announced as support!
A week and a half ago, I saw the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Gnarls Barkley in STL. My first time seeing either of them. Fan-friggin-tastic!! Both bands were amazing and the stage show was very impressive.
I haven't been to a live show since November, but in all it 2006 was a very good concert year for myself, got to see 4 of my alltime favorites acts.
April:
Bryan Adams
Kathleen Edwards
June:
The Tragically Hip
Sam Roberts
Matt Mays & El Torpedo
Three Days Grace
Theory of a Deadman
Hedley
September:
The Rolling Stones
Alice Cooper
Sloan
Kanye West
November:
Jim Cuddy
Justin Rutledge
Guns N' Roses
The Trews
Die Mannequin
By the way, has anybody ever seen Everclear live? Are they any good? I'm going to New York next month & i've been offered very cheap tickets to one of their gigs. I'd like to go to one show while i'm up there, if not Everclear, i might try catch The Trews & Matt Mays, they are playing together in NYC one of the nights i'm there.
I'm only in NY for 5 or 6 days, yet in that span, The Trews, Matt Mays, K'OS, Arcade Fire...and a few other Canadian acts which i can't remember are all playing.

2006 was definitely the best concert going year ever for me:
The Tragically Hip (first time!!)
Death Cab for Cutie (x2)
Manic Street Preachers (x1)
James Dean Bradfield (x3)
Jurassic 5 (x1)
The Cooper Temple Clause (x2)
Our Lady Peace (x1)
Pearl Jam (x1)
Tool (x1)
(Oh, and I saw Ben Folds in December '05 and January '07

)
That list comprises about 80% of my top twenty bands, as well - so all in all, a very good year!

Going to see Thornley and the Hip next week, Im gonna get rocked!
If anyone wants to share all there concerts, I had a thread about that once..
