Right? I'm rarely as content as I am in the live Miasmal Smoke moment. It's somehow so huge and intimate at the same time.

Yeah, it was the highlight for me for sure. It's trance inducing, I get the same feeling when Sam Roberts does Mind Flood live.

Saw the Arkells last night, they are absolutely phenomenal live. They played 2 new songs that have yet to be recorded and they sounded great. They said that they will be recording the new album in January, and it should be due out around April or May. I can't wait.

I hope they can avoid a sophomore slump... they have a lot to live up to after 'Jackson Square'.

Serena opened for Aerosmith when they played here in 2007, but she was one of the first openers (there were many) so i didn't get there early enough to catch her. I've since become a fan though so am looking forward to seeing her live for the first time this winter.

As for Wintersleep, i've only seen them live once, but it was as an opener for Paul McCartney last summer ('09) on Halifax Commons...i didn't care for their set at all, but i'm sure they'd be much better in a smaller venue as opposed to outdoors in front of 50,000 people.

Back in October I saw Cuff the Duke and Gord Downie within 8 days of each other. Needless to say it was an amazing week. I haven't been to a show since. When I was younger I used to go see live bands every week, but with mortgage payments and the recent purchase of a new car, my money is pretty tight these days. I have to carefully pick and choose which shows to spend money on.

I thought the exact same thing when they opened for Pearl Jam at the Calgary Virgin Fest last summer. Their music doesn't seem to translate well to the big stage. But I've seen them three other times in smaller venues and they never fail to kick my ass.

I saw Cuff the Duke open for Blue Rodeo about 3 years ago, at that point i had never heard of them before but i liked their set. I saw Blue Rodeo again last winter & Wayne Petti (their lead singer) was playing with them this time. The Dustin Bentall Outfit (with Kendel Carson) opened that show & i was really impressed. Went out & bought their cd "six shooter" shortly there after & picked up both of Kendel Carsons cds as well. BR always seem to have good opening acts!

I saw Matthew Good last night in Oshawa. As usual, a fantastic show with lots of hits and new stuff too. I've got Zero Orchestra on repeat on the ipod right now.

Came home and grabbed a ticket for the Friday show in Toronto this week. Go see him if you get the chance.

Last one I saw was Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks at The Phoenix in Toronto.
Great stuff. Played pretty much the whole new album. Awesome album (aside from "Senator" which I kinda can't stand).
SM was in great spirits, chatty etc.

I saw Hey Rosetta at the MacEwan Ballroom on Monday night. Awesome show!

The National last night Toronto ACC Theatre. Lamest crowd on record, Matt Berninger at one point went into the seats and personally started to get people off their asses. He then invited\escorted people in the seated area to the GA floor that was half empty - all this at the expense of confused security who could do nothing to stop the flow. I don't know if it was the crowd, the show, the venue (masive black curtain draped accross centre ice to create a "bowl" type setting) or a combination but I have to admit I was disappointed with the overall spectacle. Sound was good, lighting was mesmerizing at times but overall I was expecting more seeing this much anticipated band for the first time.

Saw Great Lake Swimmers in Montreal a couple weeks back; pretty awesome show full of new material

I went to the annual Andy Kim Christmas show last night. I must be a bad Canadian 'cause I had no clue who Andy Kim was (until he started singing, then I recognized some songs). The line up was not bad this year: Buck 65, Sarah Harmer, Arkells, Sam Roberts, Ron Sexsmith...

Each performer did 2 and sometimes 3 songs.

I don't always "get" Buck 65, but last night he was fantastic. Best part for me was Sarah Harmer and the Arkells together doing "Do You Hear What I Hear". Nice rockish take on a traditional carol!

I think I've set a new personal record for the amount of shows I've taken in during this school term. I saw:

Primus
Mumford and Sons
The Sadies
Neko Case
Bon Iver
The Trews
Big Sugar
Dan Mangan
Yukon Blonde
Wooden Sky

Every show was amazing, and for next month I have the Arkells, and Postdata (Paul Murphy of Wintersleep) lined up. Yukon Blonde is also rolling back through Kingston next year, and I'm sure numerous other shows will be taken in as well. I think I heard that Paul Langlois would be doing another solo gig with the Campfire Liars in Kingston in the near future.
