Ironic - Rory starts this topic yesterday.
I say a movie everyone should see is Frequency.
I wake up this morning turn on the TV, and I watch the entire movie.
I can not believe it was on today.

Funniest movie of the year. Close behind is Shaun of the Dead.

Just about to watch two movies: Gothika, and Mystic River... any thoughts on either or both movies?

I don't want to spoil anything for either so I will wait until you're done watching them. If you had to pick one over the other to watch first, I guess I would go with Mystic River.

I actually saw both in the theatre, so no surprises. I just like to read peoples' opinions on different movies, and then watch them again.

High Fidelity is a great movie, but the greatest music movie of all time has to be this is spinal tap.

I saw Hidalgo the other day. I had my doubts but it was a good movie.

I also highly reccomend "Dr Strangelove" and "Calendar Girls"

I liked the twist in Gothika but in general I thought the movie was a 'been there done that' kind of thing. It did make me jump a few times but overall it was just ok in my book. I would give it a 4 out of 10.

As far as Mystic River, I thought it was a decent but not great movie. I think Sean Penn way overacted in that film. Also a forgettable film in my opinion. Perhaps a 5 out of 10.

I'm with ya on both films. From the previews and hype I thought Mystic River was going to be alot better and Gothika was pretty much what I expected. I sure hope the Grudge is as creepy as it looks. I am cruisin to S'toon this weekend to see Some Kind of Monster. I've heard good things. Anybody out there see it yet?

Only 5 out of 10 for Mystic River?? You're kidding, right? That was easily among the best films I've ever seen. Very powerful stuff. Sean Penn definitely deserved the Oscar for that one, as did Tim Robbins.

How do you all feel about Donnie Darko? I think its one of those movies you either hate or love - I definitely loved it.

I agree with her. In fact, 5 out of 10 is probably generous. That was one of the most over-rated movies in recent memory, IMHO.

Mystic River was pathetic. A blatant attempt to manipulate and evoke emotions instead of allowing intellectual values to do it. There was no "thinking" between the movie's intent and its effect on the sympathetic viewer - it was meant specifically to make you cry for these people in their melodramatic emotional flailing (though Tim Robbins was better by half than Sean Penn) and I cannot give it any credit for that. It makes it pretentious despite its superficiality.
