THe Artist sold prints of these on amazing paper stock for 20 bucks (shipping included) i have it hung in my office!
Here is my blurb I will be saying during the morning prayer intention during morning announcements at my school (St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic) tomorrow:
He personified love and he helped make me a better teacher, father, person, and Christian. A country mourns a beautiful, brilliant soul. Not because we knew him but because he helped us know ourselves. He was an activist for the value of art and the rights of Indigenous Peoples. “Heaven is a better place today”, as Gord Downie would say. We learn in school that there are Christ figures in literature, but in life, we come to know of a handful of Christ figures. Gord’s music and words picked me (and many others) up at my lowest points, supreme ordeals, and rock bottom moments. In his words: “Done and done. Night accomplished. If I had a wish, I’d wish for more of this.”
So so so sad. *crying jags

End of an era
His music was and still in an inspiration
I am grateful for
I always found myself growing with each new album
Every time a new album came out something significant like a job moving cities getting married having a good
His lyrics gave me great comfort with the changes in my life
This exactly. The Hip were beside me my entire life. Every album seemed to come out with each new "chapter" of my own life. From college, to marriage, to kids, to divorce, to new relationship, to moving, to getting remarried last year.....on August 20th......we had selected the date the summer before,so complete coincidence. Still trying to select a tattoo that commemorates both.
It's just strange to think of never seeing them again, never a new album to look forward to. Feel like kind of being adrift now after having these 5 guys beside me for basically my entire life playing its sound track......
Lyrics always take on a new found poignancy and meaning in times like this. I was listening to some solo Gord today and one verse in particular hit me quite hard:
From "The Only Place to Be":
I'll just close my eyes. I'll just catch my breath
This is the only place to be
I've got lots of time, my whole life ahead
This is the only place to be
This song made me consider the similarities between the sad journeys of Charlie and Gord, both thinking at one point that they had their "whole life ahead". When feeling sad I don't typically turn to something upbeat, I like to go all the way and wallow in the depths of my sadness. And this song certainly did that for me.

Very cool. I’m jealous
Watching the National right now. So far they've devoted the entire hour to Gord, and I'm a crying, blubbering mess.

Beautiful and touching. I'm glad he made you a better teacher and a better Christian. Good knows good.
We'll miss you, Gord. The positive impact you had on this world is immeasurable, more than most could ever hope to have. Thank you.
