Good advice Ron, but it's still really annoying and inconsiderate of what the fans would want. If it's not them posting on the web site that makes it even more annoying. That makes it even less of an effort on their behalf, it's sad that something so simple as "Happy New Year' can't be done. See what that took me about 3 seconds to type. Geez.

A view from an SOB Hipfan (south of the border Hipfan):
I've been into these guys for well over a decade. I buy every album, travel to see as many shows as my time and budget will allow, check their site and the fan sites such as these pretty much everyday. I'm sure that most of you Hipbasers are the same way. My cravings for new Hip stuff (music, info, shows) gives me more insight about the band than most casual fans (if the Hip have casual fans) are worried about.
My friend Brian (who loves the Hip and I'm sure considers them to be one of his very favorite bands) is the guy that introduced me to UTH back in 1990. He has seen the Hip every time they've been to Mpls-St. Paul since then and has travelled with me to see shows in other states. I remember what Brian said as we were driving back in the middle of the night from a show several hours away back in 1998. He said, "...still my favorite thing about these guys is the shroud of mystery and intrigue they bring to town along with their stardom. You don't see videos by them on MTV. They're not giving interviews in Rolling Stone. They're not on the radio. And yet they are STARS who come and just blow every other band away. Nobody can figure out Gordon Downie, and that guy just leaves you wanting more. And not just more music; more info! What's he rambling about? Is he sane? What'll he and the band do next? But you know that you're just not gonna find that stuff out because these guys, intentionally or not (I really doubt its intentional) just fly below the radar with that stuff. No US band this great could do that if they tried! I think they use it to their advantage image-wise...."
Brian still loves the Hip and will (I'm sure) be at the next show and buy the next record. While I'll be listening to previews of the album online as well as checking out photos and setlists from shows before they come 'round, Brian resists "the dangerous tug" and instead enjoys "the beautiful lull" between records. That prolongs some of the wonder and magic for him. I can't help but be a little jealous.
I think we all deep down enjoy the beautiful lull as you so eloquently put it,the mystery of what the next album might bring but I think alot of us Hipbasers just need a quick nod to ensure us of whats happening with the band,no more no less, some of us are a little adgitated/p'oed, we're all human here,sometimes some peoples patience runs dry. After how many years straight of new stuff every 2 years its become almost a given that they'll release something new this year,and with no word maybe people get worried that they decided to rest for the year,but its doubtful knowing that they said a while back that they are writing new material. I just think that whatever they got up their sleeve its gonna be something wicked......
Thats the element of the Hip that I love. They know they can't contest Nickleback, or Sum 41 in terms of media coverage, but they do their thing for their fans because most of their fans just want their music. What was life like for the Hip fan in the early 90's? There was no internet updates, no Henhouse mailing list, and unfortunately, no Hipbase. None of this would've been an issue... I'm glad they're working on a new album... I don't need a "Merry Christmas" too gratify my admiration of the Hip. I belive that in early March they will begin to inform us of their progress... first by confirming their producer (Adam Kasper), and then gradually revealing what the new album has in store, much like they did with IVL. In the mean time I spend the 'offseason' just enjoying their boots, their songs, and visiting <!-- w --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.dictionary.com">www.dictionary.com</a><!-- w --> to fully understand half of Gord Downie's lyrics...
On a side note, they definitely deserve much more attention on Much Music, because I'm getting sick of hearing about Nickleback and Sum 41, let alone 50 Cent, or whoever else is gracing the limelight illegitimately. And that "beautiful lull/dangerous tug" metaphor is powerful...
I'm with Ron on this. The album will be out when it's out. I don't need to know where they are and what they are doing while recording. I can find that out when the album is released.

Over the last few year they have always released and toured for a year then fade away for a year before releasing the new album. I am sure we will hear something by March.
of course we will hear from them by march, but thats not the point. the point is that recently they seem to neglect their fans when they are not touring or pushing an album.

Hey angie, I feel your a little more angry about this than most of us here, I know thats its not a personnal attack on us as fans, they would not do that to us, I really feel deep down that what they got in store for us is gonna be so cool and wonderfull that it'll knock our very socks off :jump but like I said earlier its ok to feel angry about this, as fans/people with feelings,its our right to question when we feel something is maybe amiss,so vent becuase you'll feel better,its not good to hold in negativeity,it makes people into instant assholes. keep your head up kid :thumb:
well the only reason to update is to sell us something that is what business they are in right . they are artists like i said before they need time to get the music rright so let in be . you wouldn't rush a tattoo artist now would you so let them create a cd worth listening too, not worry about us fans asking for updates
when the time is right it will happen so right now if they are not in the studio it is family time which they spend alot of time away from so i guess i don't care about updates . gives me a chance to explore new bands and enjoy new him t hat much more when they come back from the shed with a kick ass cd
