why do you all abreviate every single album? NFPA. It gets really confusing for the casual forum reader. Easier just to type out the name of the album.
Its one thing that irks me on this board!
Other than that small rant, the album is amazing. Songs I didn't LOVE at first listen have grown on me big time....Take Forever and About this Map.

I'm sure many of y'all have already noticed, but it seems this record is extra-heavy on lyrical repetition and other redundancies. Even by Gord's standards. Perhaps it's a statement? Even a subconscious one? I submit:
"It's a power of power of power of power..."
"Drip, drip, drip...."
"Wait. Wait! Wait! Wait."
"Yea, I know, I know, I know / Nothing short of everything / Nothing short of everything's enough"
"I can hear it, hear it, hear it / I can hear that modern spirit"
"Certain, certain / You want to, want to? / Certain, certain / You want to, want to?"
"I am, I am, I am, I am in that chair..."
"Done and done / I never get my way / You always get your way / I never get my way..."
"We're through, through, through and through / Yea, through, through, trough and through"

And then there's another instance of him generally recycling a phrase from one song into another on the same record :
"We've come too far to just feel like this / We've come too far to be feeling like this..." (About This Map)
and
"We've come too far to feel like that / You've come too far to feel like that" (Attawapiskat)

And then there's the first-lines in the choruses from two different songs (Lookahead, Take Forever ) which are extremely similar, in terms vocal melody, cadence, and composition....
Just found myself musing on this once or twice the past coupla days....
I have to say, this album is really solid. NFPA is on continuous play in my vehicle. I've even come around to liking Goodnight Attawapiskat, which I was not incredibly fond of at first. I agree with the above statement that it might be the best album since PP. My only complaint is that it is too short. However, if there were more songs (say 2-3 more) there might be something I don't care for as much (ala...kids don't get it, Frozen in my Tracks). All a matter of taste but this album is right where I'm at musically and lyrically....
And....I really thought I would want to skip the songs I have heard/seen live the past two summers but I like them as much as anything on the album (Drip, Machine, Streets)
This album is starting to grow on me....there's so many damn hooks that just stick with ya....while I still would have preferred a couple more at transformation type songs, the more spins I give this, the more I'm digging it...and the lack of over-the-top production is greatly appreciated!
I love this album, the vibes on this record are fantastic this is the album Ive been waiting for since IVL.

After absorbing this fantastic album for the better part of a week, I've come to the conclusion that this is hands down the best thing they've done since Music@Work. Even the songs I wasn't too keen on at first (About this Map, Done and Done) have grown on me. A brilliant late-career gem if there ever was one, and my favorite album of 2012 so far.
It usually takes me 3-4 listens to really get in tune with what is going on. Fantastic release imo. MMP is my least fav but after the beginning it gets moving. All good and will play out very nice live.

I think that is the secret behind their music. Once one gets it then the songs become ingrained. Went out to my vehicle during work to bring the CD for a listen. I was craving it...

Damn, it just struck me how f'n cool the bridge is in the Modern Spirit. And then Johnny's awesome snare roll leads 'em back into that majestic chorus. What a great song.
Take Forever has snuck into my head lately. Catchy little Hip tune. I hope I get a chance to hear it live.
