I like both the lyrics and the song itself, but just think of how much better it would have been without the ridiculously excessive production. I've said this before, but the finished version sounds like a cheesy 80s power ballad that could easily be mistaken for something off the Top Gun soundtrack. If they had simply pared it down to Gord's vocals and a couple of acoustic guitars, it might have been a classic.
Leaked just after midnight on various torrent sites.

So what?
Gave the whole album a listen this morning while running. The tracks after streets ahead are pretty solid and the old "drip, drip" sound really good. My verdict is definitely not out on the album after one listen, but I can def. see people having mixed reviews on it if you are looking for old Hip style stuff.

I got the same impression just from listening to the 90 second preview clips. There are definitely some elements of old-school Hip on there, but it's certainly not the 90s throwback album that some people were expecting. The thing about this band is that they've always been about pushing forward artistically. They're always going to be trying new things while at the same time keeping the basic elements that make them what they are (rock music played with drums, guitars, bass, and vocals). What I've always loved about them is that even though they continually dip their toes in different sounds and approaches, they still sound like "the Hip". And they always will.
OF COURSE I find out about this right after I get to work. The next eight hours are going to CRRRRAWL by.

edit: so is it better then the Bob Rock albums? That's all I really want, something on par with IVL or IBE.

No. The Bob albums sounded much better, and the songs were all better. And more produced.
Reminded me of IVL on first listen

IVL is easily the best sounding album (sonically speaking) since RA (Don Smith). Hugh Padgham did a wonderful job.
How about those who downloaded it not spoil it for those who are waiting for the album to be released in a week? Perhaps a Moderator could amp up their post count some more and start a thread for those who downloaded the leaked copy and want to chat about it so that this thread can stay for the legitimate release date fans...
