Hoping for the vinyl...plus I'll buy the cd in a store or through maple...it'll be easy to find free online to tide me over until it comes in the mail

Wow, I knew the art of creating albums was losing its importance in today's "mp3" world, but comments like this are still upsetting.

Albums are pretty much done. There's some innovative stuff going on, like Diane Cluck's song of the week.

Disagree. I'd argue that the majority of bands and artists out there still prefer to release their new music using the album format. Even when you buy it through iTunes, you're still purchasing a collection of songs that are sequenced in a specific numerical order that the artist chose. Sure there are bands like Radiohead that try and do things a little differently, and artists that just put out singles through their websites, etc.. But the album is still the reigning format for releasing new music, whether it's on disc or mp3s.

I can see how that could be taken as upsetting. However, I was referring to the previous post that stated having "Heaven" and "Summer" being the first two songs on IBE, ruined it for them. I just don't think that the order of songs can do anything to de-value the quality of an album.

I don't understand the argument that recent albums dilute the Hip's catalogue or diminish their greatness. I believe that they are solid in their own right, are peppered with gems an allow one to follow their progress.

I'd only call for them to pack it in when they stop progressing. And by then, I have a feeling that they'd beat me to it.

That, to me, summarizes how I feel about bands. They keep going, they keep trying, they work hard, they make new stuff.

As soon as a big band produces something "fans don't like" they get shit on. It's not because they take fans for granted. It's because they're artists, musicians. That's what they do. It's unfortunate, IMO, that people sink to saying bands "suck" or "are facing a serious decline in popularity" or whatever, as if it is easy to just crank out stuff that their fans like.

Another of my fav bands is Smashing Pumpkins/Billy Corgan. The beating he takes is absolutely stellar. And for what, for trudging on, for plowing ahead and writing new stuff anyway. Good for him. Good for these guys. Good for everyone who's had long careers where their focus was on the music. I'll never disrespect or think less of bands for doing what these guys do.

Agreed. The Album means everything!! Even the track order. The songs are in a particular order for a reason. Shuffle is so over rated! Long live the Album!!

Is the October 2, 2012 release date for this album for Canadian fans only? Is there a separate release date for U.S. fans as with past Hip CDs?
