Clash - Lost In The Supermarket Lyrics

I'm all lost in the supermarket
I can no longer shop happily
I came in here for the special offer
A guaranteed personality
I wasn't born so much as I fell out
Nobody seemed to notice me
We had a hedge back home in the suburb
Over which I never could see
I heard the people who live on the ceiling
Scream and fight most scarily
Hearing that noise was my firs ever feeling
That's how it's been all around me
I'm all tuned in, I see all the programmes
I save coupons from packets of tea
I've got my giant hit discotheque album
I empty a bottle I feel a bit free
The kids in the halls and the popes in he walls
make me noises for company
Long distance callers make long distance calls
And the silence makes me lonely
It's not here
It disappear
I'm all lost
coldplay - the scientist

Come up to meet you
Tell you I'm sorry
You don't know how lovely you are
I had to find you
Tell you I need you
Tell you I'll set you apart
Tell me your secrets
And ask me your questions
Oh let's go back to the start
Running in circles
Coming in tails
Heads are a science apart
Nobody said it was easy
It's such a shame for us to part
Nobody said it was easy
No one ever said it would be this hard
Oh take me back to the start
I was just guessing
At numbers and figures
Pulling the puzzles apart
Questions of science
Science and progress
Could not speak as loud as my heart
Tell me you love me
Come back and haunt me
Oh when I rush to the start
Running in circles
Chasing tails
Coming back as we are
Nobody said it was easy
Oh it's such a shame for us to part
Nobody said it was easy
No one ever said it would be so hard
I'm going back to the start.
i love that song :thumb:
Great call on the Coldplay... Here are two, including the first rap song... I'll make it two posts for convenience's sake.

Why Go- Pearl Jam

She scratches a letter into a wall made of stone
Maybe someday another child won't feel as alone as she does
It's been two years, and counting, since they put her in this place
She's been diagnosed by some stupid fuck, and mommy agrees, yeah...
Whoa...yeah...hey yeah yeah...
Why go home... (3x)

She seems to be stronger, but what they want her to be is weak
She could play pretend, she could join the game, boy
She could be another clone...ooh...whoa...ah yeah...

Ooh...
Why go home? (4x)
What you taught me...put me here...don't come visit...mother...
Sting me...

Whoa...ooh...
Why go home? (4x)
What you taught me...put me here...don't come visit...mother, mother, yeah...
Why go home? (7x)
Whoa...
"all falls down"- Kanye West

[Chorus - 4x]
Oh when it all, it all falls down
I'm telling you ohh, it all falls down

[Verse - Kanye West]
Man I promise, she's so self conscious
She has no idea what she's doing in college
That major that she majored in don't make no money
But she won't drop out, her parents will look at her funny
Now, tell me that ain't insecurrre
The concept of school seems so securrre
Sophmore three yearrrs aint picked a careerrr
She like fuck it, I'll just stay down herre and do hair
Cause that's enough money to buy her a few pairs of new Airs
Cause her baby daddy don't really care
She's so precious with the peer pressure
Couldn't afford a car so she named her daughter Alexus (a Lexus)
She had hair so long that it looked like weave
Then she cut it all off now she look like Eve
And she be dealing with some issues that you can't believe
Single black female addicted to retail and well

[Chorus - repeat 2x (w/ Kanye ad-libs)]

[Verse - Kanye West]
Man I promise, I'm so self conscious
That's why you always see me with at least one of my watches
Rollies and Pasha's done drove me crazy
I can't even pronounce nothing, pass that versace!
Then I spent 400 bucks on this
Just to be like n**** you ain't up on this!
And I can't even go to the grocery store
Without some ones thats clean and a shirt with a team
It seems we living the american dream
But the people highest up got the lowest self esteem
The prettiest people do the ugliest things
For the road to riches and diamond rings
We shine because they hate us, floss cause they degrade us
We trying to buy back our 40 acres
And for that paper, look how low we a'stoop
Even if you in a Benz, you still a nigga in a coop/coupe

[Chorus - repeat 2x (w/ Kanye ad-libs)]

[Verse - Kanye West]
I say fuck the police, thats how I treat em
We buy our way out of jail, but we can't buy freedom
We'll buy a lot of clothes when we don't really need em
Things we buy to cover up what's inside
Cause they make us hate ourself and love they wealth
That's why shortys hollering "where the ballas' at?"
Drug dealer buy Jordans, crackhead buy crack
And a white man get paid off of all of that
But I ain't even gon act holier than thou
Cause fuck it, I went to Jacob with 25 thou
Before I had a house and I'd do it again
Cause I wanna be on 106 and Park pushing a Benz
I wanna act ballerific like it's all terrific
I got a couple past due bills, I won't get specific
I got a problem with spending before I get it
We all self conscious I'm just the first to admit it

just seems as if he looked into the state of where he's coming from for that song; plus there are a few gems in there
POOR MAN'S GRAY
(Good)
Pat Steward: Drums
Rich Priske: Bass
Matthew Good: Guitars/Vocals

From Chicago to Miami
Shout New York, shout LA
Today we take the White House
And paint it poor man’s gray
From London to Damascus
Cry Freetown in Marseilles
Today we take the blue sky
And paint it poor man’s gray
My mama she done told me
There’s heart and then there’s hate
If one of them is inside of you
The other one it ain’t
From the alleys on the East side
Where the train it throws the weight
Brother take that cheeky smile
And paint it poor man’s gray
From Berlin to Havana
From Beijing to Bombay
Today we take the blue sky
And paint it poor man’s gray
this beast comes out when it is 35 degrees below zero
it can rip your head off
it can also stab you in the ass
this beast has killed as many as 100 thousand people
the chicken cow x4
not a pretty girl - ani difranco

i am not a pretty girl
that is not what i do
i ain't no damsel in distress
and i don't need to be rescued
so put me down punk
maybe you'd prefer a maiden fair
isn't there a kitten stuck up a tree somewhere

i am not an angry girl
but it seems like i've got everyone fooled
every time i say something they find hard to hear
they chalk it up to my anger
and never to their own fear
and imagine you're a girl
just trying to finally come clean
knowing full well they'd prefer you
were dirty and smiling

and i am sorry
i am not a maiden fair
and i am not a kitten stuck up a tree somewhere

and generally my generation
wouldn't be caught dead working for the man
and generally i agree with them
trouble is you gotta have yourself an alternate plan
and i have earned my disillusionment
i have been working all of my life
and i am a patriot
i have been fighting the good fight
and what if there are no damsels in distress
what if i knew that and i called your bluff?
don't you think every kitten figures out how to get down
whether or not you ever show up

i am not a pretty girl
i don't want to be a pretty girl
no i want to be more than a pretty girl

I think I've listened to this song about 300000 times in the past week. How I love Ani. :thumb:

-Jenna
ani difrannco doesn't want to be pretty....well TOO bad, she already is.
agreed...but there's a bit more meaning in the song....dig around...examine the conventional idea of "pretty", and it means something else altogether.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Which one are ya talking about Jenna? Cuz it can go either way...
Here's one of my faves by the way.... Can anyone guess it?
The wild winds weep
And the night is a-cold;
Come hither, Sleep,
And my griefs infold:
But lo! the morning peeps
Over the eastern steeps,
And the rustling birds of dawn
The earth do scorn.
Lo! to the vault
Of paved heaven,
With sorrow fraught
My notes are driven:
They strike the ear of night,
Make weep the eyes of day;
They make mad the roaring winds,
And with tempests play.
Like a fiend in a cloud,
With howling woe,
After night I do crowd,
And with night will go;
I turn my back to the east,
From whence comforts have increas'd;
For light doth seize my brain
With frantic pain.
yes, i understand the meaning quite clear.
crazinesssssss
pretty......pleasing to to see or hear on account of grace, delicacy, or charm, but less than beautiful.
thats our definition of pretty.
i think ani has the same definition of pretty as browning. that being "pretty" is a weak attribute put on to women , by men, to keep them down. blah blah blah. she says shes NOT angry either but she seems to be that also.
I'm talking about 2a. Brazle (and thank you for the definitions. :thumb: )
2 a : pleasing by delicacy or grace b : having conventionally accepted elements of beauty c : appearing or sounding pleasant or nice but lacking strength, force, manliness, purpose, or intensity <pretty words that make no sense -- Elizabeth B. Browning>
The weak, *good* girl, connotation of the word. Ani (thankfully) doesn't adhere to such conventions. If you like the lyrics, check out some of her other stuff...she has tons, and it's excellent.
That's the thing, Ani isn't angry (most feminists aren't) they're opinionated, they speak out. They are no more or less angry than their male counterparts, but because they're female, they're labeled as angry. See the lyrics I just posted:
"i am not an angry girl
but it seems like i've got everyone fooled
every time i say something they find hard to hear
they chalk it up to my anger
and never to their own fear"
-Jenna
no, many feminists antagonize everything that doesnt co-exsist with their opinions and ideals. women are not labeled as angry, men are. men are rapists and wife beaters and can't even raise their voice with out being "abusive".
just because a feminist wants to say she isn't angry doesn't mean its always true.
the problem with ani difrannco is she thinks she is "fighting the good fight" and "fooling everyone" but she (and many others) have only good things to say about women, but many bad things to say about men.
anyone with a brain and a y-cromezone can see the anger.
