I have been listening to "Every Picture Tells A Story" By Rod Stewart lately. Man, Ron Wood owns this shit.

Thanks LP! I watch this movie at least once a week, and Ive been laughing for days about it, I was waiting for someone to say something about it, I think its hilarious.
I just rediscovered all of my David Gray. Awesome!
Plus, I just thought about pulling out Bon Jovi...Slippery When Wet
Don't mock me.....;-) At least not too much

AWWW I still love hair bands! Then again, I love Bon Jovi's new stuff too.
I was at my Mother's house looking at my old tapes the other day, YES TAPES, and I had shitty taste in music as a teenager lol, well with exception of a few like Elton John and Queen, but otherwise, Maddonna, Whitney Houston, Terrence Trent D'arby, Tommy Page, Perfect Gentlemen. Of course I have some horrible CDs like NEW KIDS! LOL
As far as rediscovering. The whole year of 2004 was about rediscovering the hip;-)
After watching the video years ago and listening to their studio albums in the meantime, I've rediscovered The Talking Heads' Stop Making Sense. David Byrne's stage presence is incredible, so much energy...
as for Tom Waits, I just bought Rain Dogs and Real Gone the other day (before reading this thread, strange as it is) and, so far like what I hear but too early to make any strong comments
direwolf74 Wrote:The Horrible Esthete Wrote:Jenna_Bird Wrote:I've been listening to Tom Waits' Rain Dogs for the past week or so. Its such a brilliant album. Creepy and emotional and all around excellent. Its easily one of his best.
Agreed, agreed, and agreed. While I think the term 'musical genius' gets thrown around a bit too much, I feel that Waits is quite deserving the description.
Put me down as a Waits fan as well, and I couldn't agree more regarding Rain Dogs. So many good songs. 9th & Hennepin still gives me chills. Have you guys heard his new record? It's a freakin' masterpiece. I should also mention that one of my favorite live albums of all time is the 1975 gem Nighthawks at the Diner.
Rain Dogs is absolutely incredible. Unfortunately, I lent mine to my cousin a couple months ago and haven't got it back yet, and now this talk of 9th & Hennepin has me keening to hear songs about donuts that all have names that sound like prostitutes.
my formula for turning into a Tom Waits fanatic was the following: start with Nighthawks, jump right to Mule Variations (this was 2001 when this was his newest work), add Rain Dogs and Swordfishtrombones shortly thereafter and never look back (picking up every other album along the way).
but to keep with the thread: my recently rediscovered album: REM's Lifes Rich Pageant, and specifically Begin the Begin, Fall on Me, and Swan Swan H.

Nice one. Greenday was in Amsterdam last week and I went to the show - it was awesome! Besides playing a lot of stuff off the American Idiot album they played several golden oldies - couple of them from Dookie. :thumb:

Nice call on the Portishead. I always seem to play it right after my Velvet Underground disk. They seem to go well together. Do you have the Portishead Live in NYC DVD? It is amazing.

Speaking of hair bands, I still have a certain affection for Queensryche and Dream Theater

1. Peter Gabriel - Us
This is such a phenominal album. It never got the attention of "So" and its a 10x better album.
2. Stones - Vodoo Lounge
Probably the closest the Stones have gottoen to being "The Stones" since Tattoo You

I'll second that! Some of the stuff on there is amongst the best they have
ever done, IMO.....
Hey opiated - that wouldn't happen to be Phil Hartman playing "Cirroc" the Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer in your avatar, would it? Now that's something to rediscover....from a time when SNL was actually funny....
----------------
Judge: Mr. Cirroc, are you ready to give your summation?
Cirroc: It's just "Cirroc", your Honor.. and, yes, I'm ready. Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, I'm just a caveman. I fell on some ice and later got thawed out by some of your scientists. Your world frightens and confuses me! Sometimes the honking horns of your traffic make me want to get out of my BMW.. and run off into the hills, or wherever.. Sometimes when I get a message on my fax machine, I wonder: "Did little demons get inside and type it?" I don't know! My primitive mind can't grasp these concepts. But there is one thing I do know - when a man like my client slips and falls on a sidewalk in front of a public library, then he is entitled to no less than two million in compensatory damages, and two million in punitive damages. Thank you.
Judge: The jury will now retire to deliberate.
Jury Foreman: Your Honor.. we don't need to retire. Cirroc's words are just as true now as they were in his time. We give him the full amount.
[ the jury applauds Cirroc ]
Judge: Did you hear that, Mr. Cirroc?
Cirroc: [ cell phone to his ear ] Hang on a second.. [ to the judge ] I-I'm sorry, your Honor. I was listening to the magic voices coming out of this strange modern invention! [ smiles maliciously to the camera ]
