Did NFPA ever get leaked or was WATS the last leaked Hip album?gsmacleod Wrote:A few weeks ago I was thinking about when MAW leaked......Even though pretty much everyone was headed to the music store on Tuesday anyway, there was still lots of discussion.M@W leaked in March and was physically released in June.

Got my leaked copy by getting in the bands sketchy smokey van in the parking lot during a set break while watching a Hip cover band.

Good news is that this is the least disappointed I've been the day after a new hip album came out in like 10 years.

One idea that doesn't seem to have been floated on this thread is that this is a 'guerilla' promotional ploy tailored for the internet age.
Send a decoy out there on the web, give it a bizarre (and in my opinion, rather witty) title.
Create some buzz, excitement, and confusion.
Then pull back.
When the release finally does hit, everyone will be paying attention.

At this point, I think it's safe to say we probably won't be seeing the new album until the summer. Maybe June? July? The secrecy surrounding this thing is really bizarre. Is it even finished? If it was, we'd likely have an official street date by now. Maybe they were unhappy with the results and decided to scrap the whole thing.

Even just here this rumor created such excitement and buz and there is nothing now. Missed opportunity!

I think Gord's 'House Being For Sale' may have resulted in this being pushed back if March 11th was the original release. Lots of new writing once you 'sell your house'.

Record Store Day is April 16th -a lot of releases are supposed to happen then. It's not on any of the lists though...

Another interesting thing right now is the lack of any upcoming tour dates. If the record was indeed coming out soon, wouldn't we see a few dates start to trickle in by now? Also, most of the big festivals for 2016 have all been announced and tickets are on sale, but I don't see their name on any of the lineups. The Hip have always been synonymous with the summer festival season in North America, and yet they're not scheduled to play at any of them? I'd say that's pretty unusual.

This is all strange. I don't like it at all!

If Gord is going through a divorce or some similar issue, as rumoured, that'd go a long way to explaining things.
