Just picked this up last night. Listened through twice. Nice hard album like their older stuff.
The title track is instrumental, very Metallcia-like.
Songs aren't as catchy as their last album, but that seems like a good thing so far.
Anyone that liked their old stuff should pick this up for sure.
4.5/5
New this week
The Hold Steady and Stereophonics if anyone is interested
Ratatat - LP4
Holy Fuck - Latin
Bought the new Hold Steady album on Tuesday and it's amazing. Still not quite as epic as Boys & Girls in America, but that one's hard to top. I'd say this record is just as good, if not better than Stay Positive.

Agree. It's an excellent album. Although SP was a good one with some great songs the ridiculous noisy distorted mastering ruined it. This time someone has talked them into seeing sense and you can even hear the drums.

Seperation Sunday is better than both of those put together.
Yeah, I honestly never listen to Boys and Girls in America... it's way too poppy for my tastes. Separation Sunday and Almost Killed Me, on the other hand, couple of the best albums of the decade. I haven't spent enough time with this one yet, but so far I haven't been impressed outside of a couple tracks.

Both of those albums are fantastic, but I thought they really matured as songwriters on Boys & Girls. For me it was great to hear them injecting more melody and hooks into their songs. I read that Craig Finn took singing lessons in between Separation Sunday and Boys & Girls, and I'm glad he started using his voice in new ways on later albums. Overall, these guys are just a brilliant rock n' roll band. I love everything they've done.
Another candidate for album of the year:

Well, I'll be honest, I actually prefer THS when Craig Finn
isn't singing! He is the master of sing-speak.
