They have been so good to us, yet I can't shake the feeling that I would be betraying them if I actually did listen to this. I know, I know, we've bought their stuff, I'm already getting two versions of the album...but somehow it feels wrong.
I hope they don't resent their fans now. After all, music is melodious air and it goes where it wants.

I'd bet not, most people here have either pre-ordered the album or fully intend to buy it anyway. If an album get's leaked and people want to hear it, they aren't going to wait. It's not really human nature to be patient when they can get something now.

I guess that's a good thing, as I've never truely "gotten" Up To Here.

can you elaborate on that??

Listening to a CD before it comes out is just fun for me. I do not think it is horrible. Additionally, I have turned on countless friends who now go to every show with me and buy CDs(looking forward to the vinyl this year
). So I have no moral or ethical dilemmas
I'm with you on this one. I've been a die-hard supporter of the Hip since 1990. I've spent thousands of dollars on tickets and merch over the years, and I've bought every album twice, sometimes three times over. I'm a collector and I need to have the official copies with the artwork, lyrics, liner notes and all the fixins. Yes I download music, but I also own close to 700 store bought CDs. I used to have all the Hip albums on cassette and then when cassettes died out, I upgraded them all to CD. When my original CD copies became too worn or scratched, I went out and bought 'em again (just two weeks ago I finally replaced my DFN and TATH CDs). I'm getting an official copy of WATS along with my movie theatre ticket on the 6th, and I'm also getting it on vinyl. So since I'm paying for two official copies of the album, I don't feel the least bit guilty for getting a sneak preview before the release date. These guys are my favorite band of all time and I'll continue to support them with my hard earned cash until the day they stop.

Same goes for me. I'm disappointed that it leaked - but I think it's inevitable. There are too many people who already have the CD - and there's always going to be someone with a slightly different moral/ethical/legal attitude who's going to leak it.

How do you mean? There's some good songs on UTH, but I'm glad the Hip haven't been producing similar sounding stuff ever since. I much prefer the later stuff like M@W and IVL. I just don't really like the sound of UTH too much, and I very rarely listen to it. Road Apples is much better, and I think that FC was where I really started to find a love for the band.
You have to bare in mind that I didn't get into the Hip until pretty late. I also didn't get their albums in order, which might have had a influence on my tastes. I reckon if you liked the Hip when UTH first came out it would mean more to you and you'd like it much more - I didn't, so I don't have that connection with the album.

Ditto, I know where you're coming from on that man.
ok, thats all i wanted to know, hope i didn't offend you by asking as to why. thanx
I had a dream I won the contest to the intimate show at the bathouse. However during the show I was singing along to the new album, and the band stopped the show and accused me of downloading the album and kicked me out....what a nightmare.

When are they picking the winner anyway? I hope it is someone from here that is deserving not just some casual fan that had a million scene points :x

I had a similar nightmare, but somebody hacked into my computer and stole it and it was traced back to me. Thusly, I never put a copy on my main computer. I think it's six more sleeps, though my time zone/jet lag is really bad right now so I am not really sure.

Hey MAv do you by any chance know who won that contest?
I'm just wondering if there has been anymore word the "vinyl" thing mentioned earlier. Will it just be this album, or are they going to release everything on vinyl?
Ya, you'd think that with under a week left we would have heard somthing in reegards to the fan pack and vinyl from thehip.com. Beggars can't be choosers though.
