so a heavy, heavy rumour that van halen is playing the yearly RIM party...nov. 15 at the acc.

i've heard from more than one person that they heard the hip is on the bill as well. i'd classify that a longshot, personally, but two non-connected people said they heard it and i ain't about to argue. by non-connected i mean to each other, not to inside info or whatever.

(ps...i saw the first halen show in toronto...was HORRENDOUS...david lee roth is an embarrassment...the sammy/mikey show in detroit last friday destroyed it.)
Tell your friends to bring a camcorder... just in case Smile
I have also heard that rumour as well (VH and The Hip) - it was mentioned to me at the Syracuse show.

The Hip are on the bill for certain. I heard it from Rob directly, in Rochester.
That's cool!!

Hey, another rumour that's on the wikipedia page for the hip is that they are recording the next album with Rock again?

I mean, since IVL I have always heard them say that 'we'd love to do another album with this producer', but I don't actually think they have. I know they said the same about Bob Rock, but is there anything else that makes us think that they're recording with him again?

Of course, there is what seems to be a very close relationship between him and the band...but the boys do like to change it up, methinks.

And heck, while we're on rumours...any word about the next album?
what is the rim party? and how does one get tickets
^ RIM is a company in waterloo that has does the blackberry etc.
each year they hold a party with some huge band playing. last year, i think, it was aerosmith...or maybe that was two years ago?

to go i think you gotta work there...though i think workers can get other(s) in...my brother doesn't work there but is going via a RIM guy.

From all indications the band got along very well with Rock, and I wouldn't be surprised to see them do another record with him. However, after IBE was released, Gord Downie mentioned how happy they were with the results and were planning on recording another album with Adam Kasper...but then they ended up going with Bob Rock, so who knows. The only producers they've ever worked with twice were Steve Berlin and Don Smith.

I find it strange that we haven't heard any snippets of new songs lately. I'm feeling worried!
Jim Balsillie - RIM co-founder, billionaire, guy who was going to buy the Nashville Predators and move them to Hamilton - is a HUGE Hip fan and has had The Hip play at a party for RIM before. He was also at one/all of the shows at The Phoenix last fall.

Methinks Rick Rubin would be a fascinating choice.

I'm just sayin'. :music

(ETA: strictly fantasy-league conjecture on my part)
as long as bob rock stops using tommy lee's kick drum sample from dr feelgood on every album he produced since then, the new hip album will be wicked. that van halen show was awesome by the way.... enjoy it while you can that is what i say cuz otherwise there would be nothing.

Adam Kasper> Bob Rock
