Alright Base, I'll be completely honest, the response to January was as cold as a Polar Vortex. We need to heat it up in February. For the Fully and Completely tour, its up to yours truly (oh no, not again). I leaned at one point to selecting Fully and Completely in the pissing rain at Ottawa Bluesfest (Very entertaining set, available in fantastic quality on YouTube), but I also cannot pass up recommending every Hip fan to listen to this show. When the tour schedule popped up for this tour, and I saw that The Hip were playing this venue for the first time, it brought a smile to my face.
I have NEVER seen TTH live! - I was asked to drop in and tape by wooly143 here on dime, and considering how many time my ‘north of the border’ family mentioned them to me - I decided to go check them out.
I was clearly a non-Canadian minority at the venue In fact, I’d say I have never seen that many canadians in 1 place outside of Canada. Great crowd, if you ask me - and everyone was so nice and polite! Considering the amount of beer+ being consumed all around me, I kind of expected things to go a bit out of hand with screaming, clapping, whoo-ing - ABSOLUTELY NOT. A bit of audience emotions at the very end, but otherwise, a very very clean tape! And what a loving committed crowd - I almost felt bad that I ‘lacked the historical perspective’ and couldn’t enjoy it as much as folks around me. Really fun, uplifting show!!
Also, considering that Gordon was singing and dancing basically 5 feet in front of me - I filmed some songs and have a bunch of stills if anyone cares He didn’t seem to mind.
Many thanks to wooly143 and his friends for a drink afterwards - hope you guys have fun in Boston (and actually manage to get there on time considering the weather!).
Our next selection brings us to the Now For Plan A tour. For this edition, I'd we are getting into the nitty gritty of it, because this one is a long way from a soundboard. This is a fantastic show, however the recording is one that I would never recommend to a casual fan. But we are not casual fans here, eh!?

Is this thing still on?

Looks like it is!

Oh how I am dreading four weeks of the same twenty Christmas songs cycled through by different artists over and over and over again. I guess we can all get reprieve with our selection for December 2018! With December, we move onto a show from the We Are The Same tour. This month's selection is brought to you by Hipbaser kieffer.

Quote:I'm going with 2009-04-27 - Kitchener, Ontario

I was in the crowd for this one and I believe this was the first ‘official’ show of the 2009 ‘We are the Same’ Tour. The band did play a warm up gig a few nights earlier at the Danforth in Toronto, but if my memory serves me correctly, I avoided looking at the setlist from that show.
This tour took a slightly different approach compared to a number of the previous ones. Instead of playing arenas, the band did multi-night shows in smaller venues across the country and this show didn't just kick off the tour, but kicked off the first of three nights at Centre in the Square in Kitchener. The shows were billed as an ‘evening with tour’. Jim Bryson toured with the band playing keys which added a different element to a number of songs. This tour also had the hip playing a small three song acoustic set after an intermission.

I was fortunate enough to make it to all three Kitchener shows and as previously mentioned, the excitement of the show being at the beginning of the tour meant there were many questions going through my mind, most importantly, what gems might show up on some of these setlists.

I think what makes this show stand out is as much for what wasn’t played. Not many sets lack all of New Orleans, Blow, ABAC, Grace, Fully, M@W and BobC. It also pulled out rarities such as the Bear, Makeshift, Tiger and Puttin' down. This song was also heavy on the 'new' album, with 8 of 12 songs from WATS being played.

This tour had Gord really breaking the fourth wall, interacting a lot with the audience, climbing into the crowd and having fans sing into the microphone. If anyone is looking for more listening, I can’t say enough about the 3 night run of shows in Kitchener and highly recommend checking the other two out.

This was a very special concert. There were 20 000 people in attendance in a relatively small city, but everybody showed
up to support the charities and to see the awesome performance. The weather was perfect and it really set the mood for a great evening.

I got lucky in that this is a festival style show and I managed to capture very little crowd noise considering.
Yet again there was still a couple "incidents." During Bobcaygeon a very drunk guy jumped on my back a few times.
The next thing is during Meanstreak you will notice what sounds like a very upset donkey. To be honest I can't be sure what exactlly happened
here, but it sounds painfull.

I missed this tour due to work and really dove into shows trying to pick this tour's bootleg. Lots of good boots available and some great shows with less than stellar recordings. Went with Boston for both the quality of the recording and also the setlist; both great. I was hoping for a show with both Dire Wolf and Dark Canuck but while I had several short listed that fit the bill, this one kept pulling me back. Hopefully others enjoy it as much as I have.

Marchin' on (oof) to the selection for this month- Hipbaser kaisersozee selects next in our chronological journey through Hipstory. We are now upon the Phantom Power tour!

kaisersozee Wrote:When I was chosen to pick a Phantom Power show I knew it would be hard. What an incredible tour it was full of some of the best recordings ever. I saw 6 shows from that tour (5 of them in a 6 day period – 4 of those in the Phantom Zone) like “Kieffer” last month I decided to go with a show I didn’t see. There are so many iconic shows to choose from like Grape Jam, Bill’s Bar, Zoo Amphitheatre Toledo, Ryan’s Ballroom, Modjeska Wi, or any of the shows I saw in Canada.
I ended up choosing between the Modjeska, the Roxy Halloween show where Gord came out dressed as Fidel Castro and the show I selected 1998-05-18 Cat’s Cradle in Carrboro NC.
The venue has a capacity of 750 people and the intimacy of the show, Gord’s ranting, songs within songs and a 2 encore set with the Rules and Chagrin Falls and killer Meridian decided it.
(14:44) Something On
(28:52) Nautical Disaster
(33:22) Poets Plus (w/ Bird's Eye View Of A Bird's Eye View)
(38:02) Greasy Jungle (w/ Shampoo Boy - Insomniacs Of The World Goodnight)
(43:04) Ahead By A Century (w/ Pink Moon - This Flight Tonight tag)
(47:58) Springtime In Vienna (w/ 60 Seconds)
(52:44) The Rules
(56:55) At The Hundredth Meridian (w/ 100 Years Old - Songwriters' Cabal
(1:03:22) Escape Is At Hand For The Travellin' Man
(1:09:42) New Orleans Is Sinking (w/ The Never Ending Present)
You can find it on Hipbase but I recommend using this link as this flac is brighter.
https://drive.google.com/open?id=1oSkEU ... rO088Qc_mB
Enjoy my Hip Brothers & Sisters!!

I've never heard this show, and I've cheated and previewed it to myself these past three days, and it is fantastic.

The link kaiser posted is just one FLAC file of the whole show. I tried to find it in the Hipbase archive, but could not. Then I did something I had not done in years, and used to do all the time. I had the audacity to give this show my Audacity treatment (I haven't edited a show down in forever). I hope kaiser that you don't mind, but I took the FLAC you posted, and edited it down into tracks. I then exported them as mp3's, and gave them proper tagging. If I do this google drive thing correctly, here's some mp3s for this selection: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1qbl9c ... vi1XaLy_-m

After a few soundboards for our selections, we're back to an audience recording. The size of the room shines through on this, in my opinion. One of those rooms where you may not even have to amp the drumkit very much or at all...

Enjoy!
