Need I remind you that the fact that the Hip unites people of broad and varying musical interests is a wonderful thing? We certainly don't want everyone on the board liking the same stuff. Whatever happened to valuing perspectives?

It just so happens that I am not a fan at all of either of those two bands, but I take pleasure in noting that somebody who likes them loves the Hip like I do. It's testament to the artistry of the Hip's music that people with such diverse tastes are all here. No need to take pleasure in pointing out that other people are "not cool at all" for having differing tastes...mellow out, maaaan!

the hip
sarah harmer - all of our names
loretta lynn - van lear rose
matt good - rock and roll review

those four are the only ones i've really enjoyed.
Honestly, sarah harmer's album gets as much play as IBE. it's oh so good.

I've been meaning to pick up the Loretta album. I heard some of it and it sounds great. Matt Good's record is solid as well. I agree that Sarah is definitely gifted. Gord called her the "country's best songwriter" and it may be true. Gord is my favourite lyricist but Sarah Harmer is defintely up with Canada's best along with Neil, Gordon Lightfoot, and Ron Sexsmith among others. I saw Harmer a while ago in a small theatre in Summerside and she was great! Harmer's last two records have both been gems.

You should check out some of her Weeping Tile stuff as well. They were definitely one of the most underrated bands in the country, mostly due to Sarah's songwriting. "Cold Snap" is an amazing record, as is their final album "Valentino". You can also find the very first version of "Basement Apt" on Weeping Tile's debut album "Eepee".

I've heard a little of Weeping Tile but not much. She is a great songwriter and the stuff I heard sounded good. Maybe I'll search for some more TILE!

Well, I haven't been off the Island in a little while but the last time I was it was maybe $37 or $38 to get across the bridge. You only pay when leaving PEI, you don't pay both ways.
