I'd like to agree with these, but it's tough for me to take back-to-back albums. I think DFN is the band's most complete album. So to contract DFN's dark side, I'd probably take PP for it's more pop, slower and upbeat tunes. Tough call though.

After we see what the most common selections are, we should start a poll. (too many combinations to do outright)

Sorry to break it to you guys but. . Fully Completely, as an album, is far overrated. . for those who chose Fully Completely

I know that the band did not enjoy recording that album for a number of reasons, one of which is that the Producer made them record it instrument by instrument in overdubs, instead of the 4 or 5 guys in a room "live" style that they prefer. I do believe that it contains some of their best songs, especially live, and that Tour was incredible.

If someone held a gun to my head and said "one Hip album" I'd have to go with Fully Completely followed by Phantom Power (another great Tour).

I wouldn't say FC is 'overrated' but gee...I dunno, I always saw it as a 'transitional' record between the Hip as gutbucket bar band and the artier, edgier Hip of later recordings. So, some great tunes, but not a masterpiece---more a signal that this band was shifting gears somewhat (a process brilliantly consolidated on their genuine masterpiece, DFN).

Minus the "We'll Go Too" diss, I agree. FC can't be knocked too hard, since it does contain a number of staple Hip songs, but at the same time, I don't see as much of an overall theme or sound to it as, for example, DFN or PP or even IBE or IVL (or most of the others I guess).

To me FC has more of a collection of great tunes, but with a little less direction than what was to follow. Even RA and the EP were straight-edge rock albums. I think FC was one of, if not the most, integral albums as far as helping the Hip develop the sound and band they are today, but I would also classify it as more "transitional". I'd say it's more of an album full of great individual tunes rather than a great album... if that makes any sense.

I just find it almost impossible that people dislike Fully Completely. I never thought in a million years I'd hear somebody say that.

I don't dislike it...I love most of the individual songs. But here is the complete polar opposite about what I said about Day For Night in my post in that thread...FC for me is an album of 12 songs, not one cohesive listening experience. Each one stands out distinctly in my memory, for better or worse, and it doesn't have the flow, thematically or musically, that the albums immediately preceding and following it have. I absolutely love 10 of the songs, so I love the album, but it doesn't hold together like truly brilliant albums. It sounds like a mix tape to me.

I see. But what do you mean by "it doesn't have the flow, thematically or musically" in the other albums? If you mean the songs on FC are diverse, per se, then what about Road Apples? Alot of those songs have nothing to do with each other... (I'm not arguing, just curious)

perhaps you need to try listening to it in the order it's listed in on the back of the cd...
