my gut feeing is getting stronger that Toronto may get Limelight!!!! Seems like a real possibility to me...........
This may be a separate thread, but this one is hot, so it'll probably get read here. I remember seeing a video snip of them doing Limelight. Is this still available anywhere?
It is on youtube..

I included it on a Hipfans.com Grab Bag DVD, and it's here.

Ahh, but how 'bout...
"A Night Like This" by The Cure
I was just listening to the live version and it's a solid tune, and I remember Sinclair saying something about The Cure being a common interest of the band back in their earlier days.
off topic, but the smashing pumpkins do a pretty cool version of it, if you can track it down. It's got James Iha singing!

Maybe a few tracks from the "Us" record would go over better, or early Gabriel from his first record (stuff like Modern Love or Moribund The Burgermeister). Gabriel throughout the 80's just has too many instruments that don't parrallel the Hip's. Mind you, I would not complain in the least if they decided to cover Biko or Shock The Monkey
.All that aside, I love Gord's cover of Fortunate Son, so why not a Hip version?

Was doing some work at home this weekend and had the iPod on shuffle......up came the Stones "Silver Train" from Goat's Head Soup and my first thought was, "hey there is a great song for the boys to cover". I think they would do a great job on that one, Rob on slide................

Both...
I think the call themselves a Toronto band as they were formed in Willowdale (a burb/region of Toronto).
Geddy Lee & Alex Lifeson are from Toronto.
Neil Peart is from Hamilton.
