Stick THIS in your ear instead...

point taken - you've basically said it here, and I'll now agree that the intros are similar, but once Vicarious kicks into gear, the similarities for me are completely over. Vicarious reminds me of a mix between the Undertow days (Swamp Song?) and the Lateralus era. That was my first impression of the song, and that impression remains. I always thought it reminded me of Lateralus because of the tone/level of Maynard's vocals, but perhaps on more of a subconscious level I was hearing Schism in that intro.

I agree. After the intro it goes off down a number of other Tool-ish paths - and as commented, not necessarily a bad thing, as it is a solid mix of tried but true Tool sounds - but hearing the intro on the radio was what made me say "I liked [Vicarious] better when it was known as [Schism]".

Giving the band a listen on the train today, I 'm still a bigger fan of Schism, and I still wonder why "The Pot" wasn't the lead single. If tool are getting formulaic, at least it's formula in the mad scientists sense.

Smile
true enough, i was surprised The POt wasn't a single either...

oh well, it was a great album overall any way you slice it, and i'm fucking eternally grateful that i got to see them live...

I have my doubts that they'll realease another record or tour ever again...and even if they do, it probably won't be for another 5 years or so...

Thanks alot! Now Christmas and New Years are ruined. Cry
It's not a full album, but the best EP of 2006....

Okay... I've had a good think, and in no particular order, these are some of my favourites this year.

Tragically Hip - World Container I'm not sure why exactly, but this album is one I can't put down. Sure it's The Hip and I know they are great, but even so... this one is a stayer!

The Vines - Vision Valley A great return to form for this band after their lead singer was diagnosed with Aspurgers Syndrome. A top notch garage roick album and great fun.

The Storys - The Storys Old fashioned rock of the sort that seemede to pour out of California in the sixties, beautiful harmonies

Tom Petty - Highway Companion He keeps it simple and produces consistently good music.

Snow Patrol - Eyes Open The album I thought they'd never make. It has variety, depth and some real classic tunes.

Razorlight - Razorlight This year they stepped up to the plate and proved they have what it takes to be the next big stadium act out of the UK.

The Raconteurs - Broken Boy Soldiers The band that Jack built - better than the White Stripes? They certainly have the potential...

Muse - Blackholes and Revelations If you thought they were epic before, this one is at a whole new level - there's nobody else out there playing like them.

Matisyahu - Youth The best reggae album in years - written asnd performed by a 6'5" hasidic jew from brooklyn!

The Killers - Sams Town They've discovered Springsteen, and they seem to like it.
I was going to spend a bit more time tweaking the order of these cause I don't think it's quite right but fuckit.

BTS took the number one spot for me this year because I really loved the album but also because it opened me up to all of their music which I had so far somehow ignored.

I actually enjoyed all of these albums, except for maybe Neil Young's, which is disappointing to me because I love Young so much. I think I'm missing a few in here as well.

I guess Top ten is hard to decifer for some people, or are you just trying to show everyone how many albums you bought this year.

Or perhaps "top ten" changes on a day-to-day basis so it's easier to list all of the 2006 CDs someone liked.

Or there was a 30-way tie for tenth place.

Looks like he has posted every CD he has bought that was released this year. No biggie, trying to make a funny
i numbered them for ya. if all you want is 10, ignore the rest.

a lot more than 10 great albums released this year though. A lot more than 40 even.
My favorite of 2006 is easily The Novaks debut CD, Balls ahead rock and roll...I love it.
