just got the new Incubus cd from work today, and it's pretty kick ass as well

Here are my top 5

1) The Thermals - The Body, The Blood, The Machine
2) Band of Horses - Everything All The Time
3) The Tragically Hip - World Container
4) Ghostface Killah - Fishscale
5) Lupe Fiasco - Food and Liquor

I had the Thermals in my hand yesterday but put it back to buy the Sufjan Stevens 5 disk Christmas experience. Comes complete with stickers, Christmas story, family photo and guitar chords for all the songs.
While I wouldn't rank these albums overall as being top rate, they both have some top moments:

Best guitar hook of 2006: "Conventional Wisdom" from Built to Spill's You In Reverse. I wish more of the album - even more of the song itself - were like this hook. Here's a link to the song's "unconventional" video.

Best song of 2006: "Louisiana" from The Walkmen's A Hundred Miles Off. I wish more of the album was like this song. Here's a linkto the song's video (sometimes the vid seems to stop at 49 seconds in. Not sure what the deal is there.)

No kidding. I was really anticipating the album, but Louisiana, Brandy Alexander, and Another One Goes By are the only tracks that do anything for me.

Yeah, those are the keepers. I'd also throw in "Lost in Boston" . Makes me want to get drunk on "rum & chocolate". Confusedcratch: And "Tenleytown" is like Dylan covering Nirvana's "Territorial Pissings". Solid.

Anyway, these guys are great to see live, but their albums are pretty hit and miss. You could pull together one amazing album from their material, and it would be the best thing going (e.g. "Wake Up", "The Rat", "My Old Man", etc.). But I struggle to get through any of their albums on their own.

We're getting off topic here, but man, is "The Rat" an epic song or what?

Yes it is. Topic now diverted to a poll question. I'm thinking there are more options on the list than there will be votes!!! Smile
song of the year was Vicarious by Tool IMO, soooooooooooo sooooooooo good.

I liked it better the first time around, when they called it "Schism"

erm, that song, along with the whole album, is absolutely incredible. very few hard rock bands come close to how good tool has become. srsly.
Song of the year..."strip my mind" or "wet sand" by the Chillis

I'm not arguing over Tool, I just thought "The Pot" would've been much better as a single than "Vicarious".
hey..what happened to my pics in my sig, and my concert stats?? they've disappeared
The song of the year was clearly "The Funeral" by Band of Horses.
All I know is that the song of the month for December is 'Bank Job' by BNL.
