are you kidding? the us outplayed canada that game as a huge underdog. canada beat them on the shootout which is basically a coin toss. but the us was the better team...especially in ot...
"shits the bed" implies failing miserably when expected not to. the u.s. wasn't given a chance in that game yet was the better team.
