[This is a bit of a carry-over from the Reviews section... if it's not cool, then I apologize...]
So the boys pulled out Fiddler's Green in Calgary tonight...

hock:
No foolin'. I just checked the setlist archive and couldn't find any record of them having played Fiddler's Green before. Can anyone think of a show (recorded or otherwise) when they played it?

As legend has it, the song was written for a relative of Gord Downie's, and he vowed never to play it live, as the song was for him personally. Get Back Again was supposed to be on Road Apples, but it was requested that Fiddler's Green replace it.
October 28th, 2006 is the first time EVER the song has been played live, as far as I know.
I'm sure there are some hipbasers here that can add to, or correct this.
Wow! That's impressive.

What a momentous occasion.
I just sent an E-mail to a friend of mine in Australia which went something like this:
LAST NIGHT, IN CALGARY:
FIDDLER'S F*****G GREEN.
OH. MY. GOD.
Really can't think of anything else to add.
Steve
Many never thought the day would come when this got played, myself included. With this tour all bets are off the table. I have a feeling it wont be long till we here get back again.
I would love to get a behind the scenes story from MAv if possible on this one. Why they played it , will they play it again oh say in copps or acc in feb ?
Well with them adding back in to the mix songs like 38, Pigeon, Verge, We'll Go Too, etc. I can pretty much safely say that we could hear anything at this point from them!
...I never thought the day would come that we would hear Fiddler's. NEVER!!! It really is just unbelievable to wake up this morning and read that!
Aw, that's so cool to hear. Funny, I'm not all that jealous. I think its great that everyone is getting a chance to hear some rarities. Mind you, if I hear that Another Midnight or Opiated get played along the way, well, that'll be a diferent story.

I don't think Verge is such a rarity, is it?

According to the Hipbase archive, it has only been played 46 times and was last played at the Paradiso in 2002.
I have been to over 30 shows and I don't believe I have ever seen them play it live...
It was certainly a rarity to me!
Ya baby. I am so stoked.
Amazing show as usual.
Of course being there for Fiddler's Green just takes the cake.
I got a copy of the setlist, but unfortunately the roadie tore one corner off, but it matters not.
And the band has two new fans after last nights show. My sister and her boyfriend were blown away.
The setlist:

Im absolutely stunned, I mean I was in total shock when heard 38 in FY, but at least it had been played before..this is amazing! Hopefully it will make another appearance on the upcoming tour, particularly London.

Damn - I never realized On The Verge was only played 46 times.
I think it is the best closer with a very close 2nd coming to Fire In The Hole.
I feel special now - out of 46 times - I have seen On The Verge 3 of those times.
Fiddler's Green - that is amazing - Hope someone caught it on video and gets it up on YouTube :jump
