Well, other than the three Cups and the Olympic gold medal.

A washed-up Yzerman walks away from Team Canada, putting his country ahead of his ego.
A washed-up Roenick threatens to cheer for another country if he's not on Team USA, putting his ego ahead of his country.

really though..are you surprised?? the shitty thing is, is that when roenick's hockey career is over, somebody will hire him to be on tv and we'll have to hear him yap yap yap
I think there's a few guys who should move over on the US team and give there spots up. I'm thinking of Roenick, Amonte, Chelios and maybe even Guerin.
Thats hillarious. What a chump. I have never liked the guy, and thats not making me like him anymore. I hope he makes the team, 'cause Team Canada will look bad with him supporting them
Yzerman is a man.
Roenick is a washed-up idiot who would be well-served by another broken jaw.
He should pull a Brett Hull and go play for Kahzakstan.
c'mon guys, get off his back, doesnt everyone want to cheer for a winning team?
'Go Canada' indeed

Yeah, but who's going to replace these players? I saw a list of possible US players and Ryan Kesler was on the list. Kesler is a bum. He's another in a long line of shitty first round Vancouver draft picks. The Canucks, instead of looking for a stud D-man or first line player, look for a guy with potential to be a decent third liner. Great drafting strategy, eh? I think I'd rather have a 50 year old Amonte than Ryan Kesler.
As for Yzerman, I can't in good conscience give him too much credit. He did what he was supposed to do. Also, I don't think he wanted to be kicked off the team. He wanted to leave on his own terms so he could say "I didn't get fired, I resigned". I don't think Yzerman was playing on Team Canada anyway, no matter if he was healthy or not. He just wanted to get some good publicity. I don't begrudge him or anything. I just don't think he did anything that warrants great applause.
Roenick is an ass though. Always was, always will be. If you want to play devil's advocate, Canada does the same thing that Roenick is talking about. Quinn came out and said incumbents get first dibs on the team. Therefore, a guy like Lemieux, who hasn't done shit the past few years, is a lock if he's healthy. Also, Mccabe proabably won't make it even though he might win the Norris this season if he keeps up his play.

Uh, nice contradiction.
Gretzky said that if Yzerman and Lemieux wanted to be on the team, they'd be on the team.

Sorry, I didn't even notice that.

I thought Yzerman was going to be an exception but if Gretzky said that, I'll take your word for it.
..but that still proves my point that maybe JR isn't such an idiot for wanting to be on team USA. If that's how Canada works, why can't the US follow in how they pick players? I still think JR is an idiot in general, but he shouldn't be raked over the coals by everyone in this instance. If Lemieux got a feeling he wasn't playing on Canada, you better believe he'd be saying the exact same thing as Roenick.

You
seriously think Mario would cheer for the US if he wasn't named to Team Canada?

 Well, maybe it wouldn't be that serious. I think Mario would be pissed but you're right, he wouldn't cheer for another country. Maybe I should have said Mario would feel the same way Roenick feels. :thumb:
Yeah, good 'ol JR. He's a tool alright, but he is entertaining. With Brett Hull retired, who else would we kick around after making outlandish comments? Sure there's JR's teammate, Avery, but he's just stupid. JR is at least funny or entertaining a lot of the time, Avery's just a dumbass.
But JR's crack about "cheering for Team Canada" if he doesn't make Team USA is just ridiculous. I don't believe he'd do that for a second... but really, why the hell would you say something that ridiculous in the first place? I think JR's had too many concussions... the few remaining brain cells he has must have rattled around too much, that's why he said what he said today.
I'm not sure how Sean Avery even garners media attention....he is NOT a good player...he's a complete fringe man, I don't think he'd even be in the Show if the league had the 23 or so teams that they should be down to.
It really bugs me when this guy gets any coverage....I'll give him credit for doing the Alisha Cuthbert though...that's nice work regardless of whether he's a dink!!!
As far as JR goes...I think he should be there, ass or otherwise. He has put in his time and there aren't too many players that are much better than him in the US, or more importantly, have the International experience to contribute.
Besides the US isn't gonna make it to the Top 4 anyways...
Canada
Russia
Czech Rep
Finland
In that order...lick it stick it stamp it.
Goulet!!!
I thought cferneyh's original post was going to be something nice and sweet like
Yzerman = Classy
Roenick = Douche
Something like that. Anyway, that's pretty much the summary.
Roenick
Gotta admit, I never really liked the guy a ton, but he has made me laugh out loud a few times.
Once during palyoffs against the Leafs and they showed him on the bench singing along with Run DMC's "Tricky"
The other, just a couple weeks back in Nashville (I think?) dancing on the ice to KC and the Sunshine Band's "Get Down Tonight"
