Pronger in Edmonton!?!?!?

Man, this is getting crazy!
They should just do a fantasy draft. start from scratch.

Now thats a draft i would watch!

farmerdan69 Wrote:i think that nolan exercised his option to say in toronto, but the leafs management are saying that his injury happened on his owntime , and that they aren't going to honour the contract....or something close to that...

I just picked this one to respond to because it was the shortest on the Nolan topic -- Nolan and Toronto are at each other's throats and there's no way he's going to be playing here again. The Leafs say his injury is not related to hockey he played as a Leaf. Nolan says the Leafs owe him all of last year's salary and all of this year's salary. He says they stiffed him last year when he was injured. They say he disappeared for five months and couldn't be contacted. His agent hates the Leafs. The Leafs hate him. He's done. Big stiff never did anything here anyway, except get our hopes up. See ya.

Pronger in Edmonton is the best thing I've heard in a long time. Too bad they had to get rid of Brewer to get him, but what a score for the Oilers.

I can't see why any owner would want Nolan on their team after the way he/his agent have been acting with Toronto. (Not to mention the fact that he's WAY past his prime.)

It's great to see Pronger in Edmonton, but giving up Brewer and Woywitka and Lynch seems a bit extreme.

Man, the Owen Nolan Leaf era was a bitter, bitter disappointment - for the fans, for Nolan himself, and for Leaf management. I remember being so excited when they traded for him, and all it turned into was a major headache.

I'm getting a kick of the expert Toronto sports media whining about the Leafs not making any major moves yet. If Strachan and Simmons and Ulmer are such geniuses, how come they've never been GMs? I'm guessing the money is a hell of a lot better being a GM than being some moronic sportswriter.

Just sit tight JFJ and wait for the bargains while all of the other GMs trip over themselves to sign players to dumb contracts (like the Hawks with Aucoin and the Thrashers with Holik - what are they thinking?!?).

I like, I like...its about time, I was getting worried. I think keeping Kovalev was a good thing, he seemed to work well with the team and played great in the playoffs for us. And dandenault has always been a reliable guy, its a good start. thanks clarkey :thumb:

Man, ain't THAT the truth re: Nolan! We ended up giving away two promising young players for him, and he ended up being not much more than a waste of space. Sad, really.

Even though it may be premature to dump all over Ferguson right now (like Strac and Simmons seem to delight in doing), I have to say I can't figure out what he's doing by giving qualifying offers to stiffs like Antropov, Berg and Pilar (http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story.asp?id=132124), I mean, geez, those guys are useless, we could get replacements for them anywhere for cheap. Cut 'em loose, Fergie!

I've also heard rumours that the Leafs are looking at signing Allison and Lindros for minimum contracts plus the chance for bonuses. If it works, fantastic... but those are a couple of big gambles to be taking.

Finally... holy crap, the Oilers are out of control! First they trade for Pronger, and now for Mike Peca? (http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story.asp?ID=132334) Man if I was an Edmonton Oiler fan I'd be doing backflips in the streets right now! :jump
It's like a big ole hockey parade, and we leaf fans are standing on the sidelines again. Maybe they can get Doug Gilmour to come out of retirement or bring Wendel back for an Nth go-round.

Leaf philosopy: why sign one big name free agent, when you can pursue a big name has-been (Lindros) and a medium-name brittle guy (Allison) for twice the price. Hey, I hear Owen Nolan might be available.

Go Leafs Go.

Dude, everyone ripped into the Leafs a few years back when they didn't sign Guerin for $9MM or Holik for $9MM. Now Guerin's contract cripples the Stars and Holik was bought out after providing two years of nothing for the Rag$. Why bring back Old Man Roberts and Ouch My Back Hurts Nieuwendyk when the team that had them wasn't good enough to get past the 2nd round of the playoffs the last time they played. Jeebus, the way the Toronto media is going on you'd think JFJ was breaking up the five time Stanley Cup champs.

In other words, before crying in your beer because the Leafs didn't decide to overpay Aucoin, Hatcher, Demitra, et al, wait until you see how the season shapes up.

I for one am stoked. It was time to blow up this team and start again.
i'm sick of hearing about the leafs.....even when they're not in the news, they're in the news....arrrrggghhhh
