Stephen Dame Wrote:-Rock Classics. The Beatles really pioneered pop, not rock. They were the first commercially marketed music commodity. That all changed of course, and they certainly earned their musical chops with White, Sgt. Pepper and Revolver... but turn on any classic rock station and count the number of true rock Stones songs vs. Beatles tunes.

...

working in radio i can tell you that the only reason the stones are perhaps played more is cause radio in north america sucks...the beatles have a ton of "rock" songs that could be played but for whatever reason they just aren't...as the beatles progressed the singles that were released were mostly written by Paul, who was a poppier sound than john, who was writing edgier stuff...Come together has a better groove than any stones song i've ever heard...the thing with the beatles is they are very hard to classify into one category..that is why, after hours of debating with myself, i chose them as the greatest band of all time...check out the white album..now that's diversity!!!

Bad Company, the Pretty Things to name but two...
Hmm..I didn't know that. I always that Bad Co was the labels only band. A quick google found this....Swan Song help fund the Holy Grail...Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch

the holy grail had lots of "rock" funding behind it..including pink floyd

Yeah, Pink Floyd should definitely be in this poll. There was a bevy of talent in that outfit...

And while others may not agree, I'd also neglected to mention another ass-kickin' band loaded with talent:
Allman Borthers Band
the original Sabbath should be in this poll too if you're gonna have the doors in there, Sabbath is single handedly responsible for the entire heavy metal movement which is more than can be said about any of the other artists mentioned so far. sure, after ozzy got the boot they went downhill but in their prime they were the most intense unstoppable musical force the world had ever seen.

btw here's a link to a clip of a recently discovered unreleased Sabbath song http://www.ozzyhead.com/news1.htm
