The Hip are my fave - the only band I actually post on a forum about and manage a site dedicated to. The Rolling Stones and The Doors have been long-time faves too. I wouldn't call myself "die-hard" but I know the majority of the songs. I was never big on Zeppelin or The Who or The Beatles. I'm probably one of the few guys in the world who actually hate The Beatles. Aerosmith's also a long-time fave; since I was like 9 or 10 I've been belting out Big Ones. lol. And Kid Rock. I started listening to him in 96 and I own every album but he's not a band so forget I mentioned him.

My fav band of all time is DMB with Hip and Floyd a close 2nd

I am a HUGE hip fan but they aren't even the best band in canadian history... that would be The Band
that being said... grateful dead, allman brothers, the talking heads, zepplin, the band, beach boys, band of gypsy's, cream, the wailers.... etc ...ANY miles davis grouping .... those were the best bands ever..... the rest on that list just don't match up
IMO the grateful dead, talking heads, allmans, zepp, the band, and band of gypsy's were the best of the best.... and only those should be the choices
The only bands that belong on that list are The Beatles and Led Zeppelin.
Both very influential. . . although Beatles were more versatile. . far more versatile
At the same time every member of Led Zeppelin was a thousand times more musically talented than every member in the beatles.
I think the Velvet Underground could have taken on any of the bands listed in the poll!
U2 definitely deserves mention. Their influence is immense, from Radiohead on out (that Yorke guy sings JUST like Bono, as does half the singers coming out of the UK these days).
Beatles, overrated?? There's one in every crowd. They're the hands-down winner in ANY such competition, or should be. :thumb:

LOL, this is awesome, I love a heated debate. I knew Id catch hell for leaving some bands on or off, I just put it together for fun, I broke my ribs yesterday so Im sitting here in pain just goofing around.....Ill do better next time I promise!
To paraphrase Master Yoda: there is no best, only do. Or, to paraphrase another great thinker, there's no point in bull meese comparing their racks. This is the error of catalogues and lists.
Seriously, any attempt to say which band is "best" is doomed to failure. Best by what standard? Most innovative? Most influential? Most original? Most obnoxious to parents?

Even if I think the Beatles are so much a cliche, I still voted for them because they started a revolution. If it wasn't for them we wouldn't have the other bands who are listed in the poll.

I think the greatest rock and roll performer of all time is Elvis. They say either you're a Beatles fan or an Elvis fan. I'm an Elvis fan. I think that would be a great poll!!!
