C'mon Killer Whale, Yorke walks up one side of Bono and down the other when in comes to vocals althoug I have never seen U2 live. I got the chance to see Radiohead and Yorke tore it up. Hearing Paranoid Android live really showed his range. My list for top bands goes Hip, Radiohead, Pearl Jam, White Stripes, Velvet Underground and the Eels.

well isn't that special...
Greatest band?

It would have to be The Residents.
they're still together after all these years... with possibly/arguably ALL of the original members... afterall Mr Green Eye is dead but was reincarnated as Mr Skull...

OK, I suck.

But, thanks to the Residents, Primus seems normal... and, thanks to Primus, Rush has made it to yet ANOTHER decade. (and also arguably vice-versa)

And... the first place I saw the Hip was in Minneapolis.. the first place I saw the Residents - you guessed it MINNEAPOLIS.. uh, this fits how?

Or maybe the Guess Who - how many Randy Bachmann licks have the Hip churned out... huh?huh? (at Bill's Barr G.D. even re:'s to Randy)

Who sucks now, huh?huh?
(man.. I gotta sleep)
sure wait till I go to sleep then jump all over me! I knew that would ruffle a few feathers, you guys arent to big respecting other peoples opinions around here, Im learning that now, wow. So I dont like FLoyd, big deal..........get over it :thumb:
I voted for the Stones for three reasons:

-Writing. Their stuff is much edgier, (Keeping the time frame in mind) Much more pioneering as far as rock is concerned than the Beatles.

-Longevity. Their live act today is 100 times better than it was in 1969. Practise and familiarity makes perfect. The crowds they draw are evidence enough of course. (Who knows who woulda taken this category if the Beatles had stayed together)

-Rock Classics. The Beatles really pioneered pop, not rock. They were the first commercially marketed music commodity. That all changed of course, and they certainly earned their musical chops with White, Sgt. Pepper and Revolver... but turn on any classic rock station and count the number of true rock Stones songs vs. Beatles tunes.

The Rolling Stones all the way, and I'm not even a fan. Maybe I should go pick up an album...
So the Hip is ahead of the Beatles and the Rolling Stones...... that makes sense. Common people, I know it is a Hip board but get real. I think you know more about music that that.

While I voted for the Stones, I'd take a Hip show over one of there's anyday... same goes for almost everybody on the list. So on a purely audible level, I'd take the Hip, and I can understand why people are voting that way.
I agree with Dame, and yes you should pick up an album, I recommend 40 Licks the greatest hits, that should satisfy you. But I think Zeppelin stomps the stones for Rock tunes. Im not knocking the Beatles or saying they werent a rock band, there earliear material might have sounded like rock music then, but it wouldnt cut it now, its more pop than rock. I think Zeppelin had more of an affect on most rock acts then the Beatles did, the Beatles dont inspire me to pick up a guitar and rock out.
Okay, thought I would finally add my 2 cents...................for what its worth.

I voted for the Stones myself. Granted the Beatles opened the door to the British invasion, but it was the Stones who blew it off its hinges. The problem I had with the beatles is the fact that they split up right when they were becoming a true "rock" band, not a top 40 pop band. They have some incredible lyrics and extremely well written material, but all of it sounds so "pop" driven to me, that is until you get to their letter albums.

The Stones were the first true british blues group. Initally covering most american blues musicians, they quickly came into their own and have stayed that way ever since. Granted you don't see albums like "Exile on Main Street" or "Some Girls" anymore, but there is always at least one hidden gem on each new album. I do have to say that longevity does play a factor in being the "greaters band ever"

That being said, I am surprised to read any true music fan who thinks Pink Floyd sucks? This is just my opinion, but I think Roger Waters is one of the best, if not the best, lyricist ever period. They never made a single song, every album was a story that was never complete until you listened to the entire album. Secondly, how can you argue with the fact that Dark Side was on Billboard top 200 for over 14 years................

But then again, this is just my opinion..................lol

P.S. even thought I didn't vote for them, I still think the hip are one of the best bands ever, just maybe not the best..........
LizardKing51 Wrote:my heart said Hip, but the Zeppelin DVD that came out this year blew my head off!! :rambo:

How The West Was Won, the DVD-Audio?
That was released over a year ago...

AFAIK, there was no Zep DVD released this year.

:?
Zepp, end of discussion.

I have often wondered if Bonzo hadn't choked on his own puke, would they have had the longevity of the stones or even aerosmith? In my opinion, they've influenced modern rock music more than any other band. They had it all...great lyrics, awesome musicians, brilliant stage presence, and satanism to boot.

Trivia question: What is the only band they produced?
