R.E.M's New Adventures in Hi Fi - hands down my favourite overlooked album of the 90s. This is a great band, and this their greatest album ever. Not experimental, but fascinatingly creative mature rock music. Michael Stipe's vocals and lyrics were never stronger.

And of course what happens when a popular band gets avant-garde? Americans drop them like a hot potato. Eight years later they still haven't sold a million copies in all of North America.
Cry I can't remember the 90s... or should I be glad.... Smile
I can't remember the 80s and every time I am channel surfing and see Much More Retro, I'm ecstatically happy that I can't.

Shoulder pads on men AND women...Tina Turner hair on women AND men...LOOK OUT!!! A FLOCK OF SEAGULLS!!!

Ha ha ha ha... yeah, the 80s got the 90s beat... I turned 12 in 94 and entered high school the next year... that about the only year I can vaguely recall... "I don't like the drugs but the drugs like me."
The Cardigans..."Gran Turismo"...brilliant album

Good call. I think Automatic For The People is still their best, but New Adventures in HiFi is definitely up there.
How about Candlebox's self-titled album? Man, I gotta bust that out again one day soon.

She really does that? Does she do that often? That's cool... she plays keyboards, right? or am I off?

back to the topic at hand for a second though..just thought of 3 more

Mellencamp "human wheels"
Ween "the mollusk"
Gomez "bring it on" (one of the best debut cd's ever)

it always amazes the lack of respect he gets...people rave about springsteen, but even he's had duds...it seems like no matter what mellencamp does, it's not enough to satisfy critics...now, i don't even know if he has many fans left, but his trouble no more disc that recently came out is great as well..but human wheels is a masterpiece.."junior" "sweet evening breeze" "what if i came knocking"..the list goes on...glad to see someone agrees
Morphine- Cure for Pain
Kings X- Gretchen goes to Nebraska
Fu Mancu- In search of
Helmet - Meantime
HHead- Jerk
Brad- shame
John Spencer Blues Explosion- Orange
Wellwater Conspiracy- Brotherhood of Electric
Ian Brown- Unfinished Monkey Business
Buckethead- Colma
Fu Manchu!!!!!!! awesome, gotta love that stoner rock !
It was almost painful to see the Dems trot him out for "Jack and Diane" at their convention.. the song is so old and become a cliche, junior would have been a better choice.
opiated Wrote:one that stands out to me is Blind Melon's "Soup", a far superior album to their debut...Galaxie, Skinned, 2x4..great songs

anybody else have any others that we may have overlooked?

I agree that Soup is an amazing album, but saying it's far superior is a stretch. If you can get past the hype and radio/video play of "No Rain" (which is still an excellent song) you have a solid album that is still better than most of the crap that was released around that time.

Tones Of Home
Dear Ol' Dad
Change
Time

All top notch.

You're right though, Soup is an underated album. I have so many mixed CD's that I seem to always start off with "Car Seat/God's Presents".
