nope, the best!! My allegiences(sp?) to Gord will always ring true but not in this instance.

Jeff Martin and Gordie Johnson and Matt Good and David Usher have the best voices in Canada

Ha ha. Jeff Martin has a powerful voice I agree. I just hope he doesn't turn into Scott Stapp or something. I don't like the fact that the Tea Party are Stapp's backing band. Gordie Johnson is a very good axeman but not a great singer. Matt Good has decent music but is not a great singer, but he is good. David Usher has a distinguishable voice and is all right. Gord doesn't have the best vocal abilities technically but he makes up for his lack of vocal range with his unique delivery and energy.
I actually think IVL showcases Gord's voice the best. I just think that his voice is so crisp and lively on IVL.

I saw Danny up close and personal in a dingy lil joint called The Continental in beautiful Buffalo, New York. It was staggering to hear that voice up close. I think Tom Wilson, Stephen Fearing, the Blue Rodeo guys and even Roche Voisine (Anybody remember him?
) could give him a run for best voice in Canada... but Danny is an incredible live performer.

are you kidding me? GJ has an amazing voice!!!!!!!!!!! so soulful, as for MG, i'think maybe someone needs to listen to avalanche, because he has a really unique voice, it's strangely dare i say "pretty". songs like weapon, new world order, and in world called catastrophe really showcase it rather well.

Roch Voisine is probably the best singer mentioned so far but his music is shit
08-12-2004, 10:42 PM
Ok, so now we are mentioning f*cking Roch Voisine in the discussion. Holy *&*^&*! Ok, I guess it's my turn to put my vote in for Celine Dion.
Matt Good has a decent voice, I agree.
As far as having a great voice, why doesn't everyone listen to Coke Machine Glow and hear Gord. His low, soft voice fits perfectly in the songs. It really is an astoundingly beautiful record.
AND I'm a fan of his but not a huge follower- what about Ron Sexsmith? Anyone like his voice? Sarah Harmer I think has an amazingly soothing voice.
Jim Cuddy and Greg Keelor are good and Blue Rodeo are a really good band but I wouldn't consider them as having the best voices in Canada. They probably are one of Canada's better bands though.

Ya know what? I think you'd have a hard time arguing that she doesn't. Nobody said "Rock" voice... the girl can sing.

it must be all of the old guy semen coating her vocal chords
08-12-2004, 10:53 PM
Yeah, she can. She is one of the last people I want to hear sing though. I guess I like listening to singers who sing with soul and emotion. Celine sings like a robot. She's like the Tin Man, she has no heart when she sings.
Going back to Gordie Johnson, I agree he has a good voice. I haven't heard all of Big Sugar's stuff but he is a good singer. I just wouldn't commit to calling him Canada's best. He produced the Trews cd, I'm surprised so many people hate the Trews. Ya know, with people liking other bands because of an association with someone else they like. LOL haha haha

listen to big sugar's cover of let it ride, GJ lets out this incredible "hooooooooooooooooooooooo-oooooooooooooooo-oooooooooo-oooooooooo-oooooooooooooo" and then goes into a killer solo and it's just one of the most amazing moments in any song ever (REALLY!), i will go on the record as saying that moment rivals even the greatest of hip moments.

I agree, Let It Ride kickz some majoe ass!

Downloaded Let It Ride. It is a very good cover and GJ sings well in it. I still liked the guitar more than his voice though. The guitars are so heavy in the song, it's very good.
