Um, just to clear up some misconceptions about all BoSox fans, I want to say that I am truly happy for the Rays. Those guys worked their asses off this season. Good on them.
Additionally, and on an unrelated note, GO PHILLIES! So many members of my family have waited a long time to see this...let's win one for the City of Philadelphia.

How come you're a BoSox fan instead of a Phillies fan? You're a fan of the Eagles, aren't you?
I am. I grew up about 15 minutes outside of Philadelphia. However, my father (and his father before him) is a huge Red Sox fan, so I grew up in the same tradition. However, the Phils have always been my NL team. I'm excited for Game One tonight; its been a long time coming for Philly. A championship has not been won there in my lifetime. I'll be 25 in December. So, again, let's go Phillies!

So noted. Esthete, will we have to stage a quarter-life mid life crisis if the Boys from the City of Brotherly Love flounder? Most of my family is from the Bethlehem area but I'm pulling for the Rays to win it all. The offenses are pretty much evenly matched and I expect a slugfest; the Phils have Hamels as their sure ace in the hole but, imo, Kazmir and Shields can shut down the Phils offense.

I don't quite think so. Remember -- she is a Sox fan first, so she's had a decent amount of vested October baseball rooting-interest, especially of late. As a matter of fact, in five measly years she's had more than I have (if you discount the vague memories I have of the Big Red Machine); the Reds haven't played October baseball 13 years, and have done so only twice since 1979.
And as an Eagles fan, she's seen several playoff appearances and a Super Bowl appearance.
Need I even mention the "Bungles"? :censored

RE: the Phillies - Hamels is a stud (as he showed yet again last night), and the back end of the bullpen is very good. The Rays staters are good, but not great, and somewhat inexperienced. I know is a little "easier" to say this now after they took Game 1 in Tampa, but I thought the Phils have an ever-so-slight edge in this series even before yesterday's game.
But then again, I do worry about the very "Dunn-esque" middle of the Phillies order. Ryan Howard and Pat Burrell are K-machines, and if I worry about their ability to produce in important situations in this series. Good lord, they both looked every bit like the overrated powerhitters that they are last night. To a man, I like Ryan Howard. But let's face it -- just like horribly overrated Adam Dunn, he can hit the ball a mile when he "guesses right" or whan a pitcher makes a mistake, but the fact of the matter is that he's an awful hitter whose swing is so loooong and slooow, and can't hit anything but fastballs and the occasional hanging curve. How many RBI opportunities did he squander last night? He needs to step it up or the Phillies may be hurting to capitalize on big scoring opportunities........

I suppose the fact the Brew Crew made it to their first playoffs since 1982 is a good consolation prize for the Reds kicking the tar out of the Brewers in the season series and costing me a case of brew for you and Jenna at the next Hip gathering.

I see that my severe public criticism of Ryan Howard (which seemingly always results in a karma-induced breakout shortly thereafter by whomever I decide to criticize), has helped the Phillies to the brink of a World Championship!
It's all but curtains for the Rays -- whose hitters are slumping, whose pitching isn't containing the Phillies' sticks, and who now has to beat Cole Hamels to get back to Tropicana.
What a farce. The way the season ended is just assinine. Bud Selig needs to be shot. To have a WS decided on a night where only three innings of ball were played? It's amateur hour, that's what it is. What a gong show and what a truly despicable way to end a baseball season.

The only good out of this is that after 22 yrs Jamie Moyer got a ring. You play that long you should get a chance at least.
