It's all about having good glass man!
Glass = lenses (of course)
A good "camera body" with a fast sensor helps but your lenses are your investment for life.
And I suspect Ben's using a prime lens as well which is the optimal situation. No internal moving parts!
....and I agree - Ben's made some AMAZING PICTURES!

Thanks LizardKing51! :thumb: I'm glad you like them. It's nice to have somewhere to exhibit my photos. 8)
Cheers, Trevor! :thumb:
I didn't actually use my Prime lens for those shots, as I only have a 50mm and I wanted a wider angle (especially for the panoramic). They were taken with a Canon400D body and a Sigma 18-50mm lens. I don't know the EXIF data for the panoramic but the other shot was 30mm focal length, 30 second exposure @ f10 and a 100ISO.

Well there you go! I stand corrected! I thought you might have taken the panoramic in separate images and stitched them together.
Great shot either way!

Just to add a spanner in the works: That is what I did. It's five shots stitched together.

excellent shots Ben, as always you make me want to head out with the camera and take some of my own. Really need to get a decent lens or two!!

I've been using autostitch. If you've got decent shots to begin with, you'll get a perfect blend! I've been really impressed with it.
I've seen the photo joining function in CS3 and that looks pretty decent as well, but I've not had a chance to use it properly yet.

as a note to the photographers here, any recommendations on what lens I should be going for to add to the mediocre one I got with my EOS 400D

How much do you want to spend and what sort of shots do you want to get from it? I seem to remember you have the 400D kit lens, yes? Maybe you'd want something that covers a different focal length or is a bit faster.
You can get a really good, budget prime lens from Canon - the 50mm f1.8. I borrowed my mates one for a while and was really impressed with the results.

nice piccies!
Yeah, that lens looks good, I was thinking of something for gig photography too, maybe a zoom, or maybe a nice wide angle lens.
I've got, or will have, around £200 to play with.
