I'll post when I get home from St. John's! Great seeing you in Toronto.

I stumbled across this cover from 2016. It's actually really well done. Don't know much about Leah Daniels. She does have an awesome country voice that works well with Blow at High Dough. The band is top-notch rockin' it!

I've seen her round these parts a few times. There's a pretty robust country music scene just north of Oshawa. I'm not super into country, but I think she's one of the best in the area.

potsie Wrote:This is a fantastic performance of a tribute song written for Gord by Our Lady Peace: "Ballad of a Poet". Maida beautifully describes the atmosphere at a Hip concert with the lines, "Came on like a mountaineer, exploring beauty through the syllables and cheers, there was something different in the air, something magical, the crowd was unprepared." He also throws in a reference to Smalltown Bringdown and Gord's Canadian tuxedo.
I seen OLP in Detroit a week after GD passed and they played this as part of the encore. Very touching and well done (and I'm not a huge OLP fan)... Total class. :thumb:
This album was released today and I'm enjoying it...Ballad of a Poet is easily the best song on the album.

Going to see OLP next week; the last time they were in town they covered Grace, Too and I'm looking for to hearing Ballad of a Poet.

I’m not sure if this is the right forum to post in but Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir figure skated to long time running at the olympics last night as a tribute to Gord and The Hip. I’m not a figure skating fan but it was really awesome to watch.

I've got something in my eye...Sad

Probably the biggest audience ever to hear a Downie/Hip song, incidentally.

That was awesome. Thanks for the link!

My wife and I were both tearing up watching that over coffee this morning. Yeesh.

Incidentally, whether or not you're a fan of ice dancing, you really should punch of the video of this duo's gold-medal skate. A rare case of two atheletes who needed to absolutely nail it in order to win, and who simply killed it, overcoming all resistance with an absolutely masterful, burning, incandescent performance.

fully agree. impressive and so in sync was incredible - and with a little pressure.

on another note, what would you think the audience would have been for that? I know stats will come out but any guestimates?

A beautiful and moving celebration of their skill and athleticism, of their 21-year partnership, all their successes including their gold medals, a celebration for Canada, for Gord (and his love of dance...and its disappearance), and a celebration of their sport and the Olympics. It was perfect.
