I agree with the comments about both the brilliance and the heaviness of Secret Path. I find The Conquering Sun album to be a good mood lightener in the solo Gord catalogue. As for the "Introduce Yerself" title, I'm reminded of that line from In Sarnia, "Introduce yourself...and be ready to leave it alone"

I wouldn't be surprised if it was. Yes, he did paint the cover of the Grand Bounce.

I also noticed that he wrote "Introduce Yerself" on the hand - he said in interviews last year that he constantly had to write names down on his hand because of his memory loss.

That's a great observation! It got me thinking about the title. "Introduce Yerself" works on a couple of levels:

1. It’s self-referential in the sense that he may be talking about his diminished ability to remember the names of friends, family and acquaintances. For a guy that once said “It would seem to me I remember every single fucking thing I know” he can’t now recall the simplest of things, like a name. Who are you? Introduce Yerself! I like this idea as it fits with the morbid humour he’s displayed about his condition (think the Mansbridge interview… “Jesus, is that guy not dead yet?”)

2. If each song is about a person he may in effect be using the songs to introduce those he’s writing about. This could be used to aid his own memory of the individuals if he feels he’s racing against time, not just in a mortal sense, but in terms of his memory and wants to get these remembrances down. In the future these important individuals will be able to “introduce themselves” back to him through his own recorded words.

Weird. I ordered all 5 reissues and it was $12 for shipping. It was only an extra 12 cents to upgrade to the 1-2 day priority. Super stoked for that. I am used to paying $20+ to ship a single record. We get shafted in Canada on shipping..

These 23 tracks were knocked out over the course of 8 days so I would expect fairly sparse arrangements on most, especially if it was just Gord and Kevin in the studio. Looking forward to it!

The shapes of colours look like states, provinces, townships to me, almost like a map of origins...of the songs or their subjects. Unlikely to actually be that, of course, but it's what I thought of when I looked past the silhouette of the hand to the map-like combos of straight & jagged lines in the shapes. Like somehow I will discover there's a song in the tracklist abt the person who features in 'Bobcaygeon', & a secret map of Bobcaygeon on the cover.
