3rd Single from New Album Available
#1

hey guys,

This is sorta a 3rd single that you can get before the Album comes out June 29th. In Ontario (at least) in 28's of Labatt Blue starting in June there will be a free CD. 4 different CD's to collect (OLP, Jet, Sum 41 and TTH). The TTH CD has 'Heaven is a Better Place Today" as the lead track. The other 2 songs are live tracks (Bobcaygeon and Music@Work) from the Skydome show on June 23, 2003 (first SARSTOCK?).

Heard the CD today, and the track sounds a bit punk. Gord also sounds out of key with his vocals. Guess it's what they were going for.

Look for it in Labatt Blue 28's. Nice freebie.

Cheers.

Thanks for the confirmation. My buddy the Molson rep told me about this earlier, but he had thought that it was going to be a playoff promotion.

Guess this means that I'll have to start drinking Labatt's... the things I'll do for rock.

Cheers

So the Hip's record company is appalled that people are trying to download VS off of Kazaa for free, but they are giving away free copies of Heaven is a Better Place Today with beer. I'd be curious to know how much the Hip get in this deal given that their record company is so concerned about their ability to support themselves because of Kazaa. Call me crazy, but I'm guessing Universal is getting a much bigger chunk from Labatt than the Hip are. So the message is "free" music is OK, so long as it has been sanctioned by the record companies. But any free music where the record company doesn't get their cut is bad because the artists won't be able to eat. Yeah, OK.

Yeah no kidding. I was thinking the same thing when I first read it! I'm not so sure I even like the fact that my favorite band has a single available in beer cases. I don't know why I just don't.

I have to question why the Hip are still with Universal Records in the first place; wasn't Universal the record company that Jake Gold and Gregg Allan steered them too? I would think bands getting rid of management who have screwed you would also drop record labels who do stuff like this. It's not a bad idea in general; but mass marketing it as a freebie in Labbatt's beer? MADD is not going to be a happy camper to begin with, thats for starters.

Free Canadian rock music in a case of beer... if they included a Red Green DVD and a roll of hockey tape with that bundle they'd have pretty much summed up every true Canadian.

Do we get to pick the CD? I'll just download the track if I have to buy case after case of *shudder* Labatt just for one song (of course, if it were in cases of Molson, then I'd have no trouble with it at all). The good part is that come June we'll all (legally) have nearly 1/4 of an album that won't be released for another month.

You're kidding right?

This promotion reeks of TheoryofaNickleCreed and the ilk. I won't be surprised when the new Hip management starts lobbying for a song about blow jobs.

Yeah, I was just kidding there.

You're right on the NickleCreed part too. I give it 6 months before the Hip's management makes them wear identical tight black jeans, identical tight black t-shirts and make Gord grow a long hair and beard.

After thinking about this, I'm rather annoyed. I don't particularly *want* to be able to listen to the album in bits and pieces, one single ahead of time would have been just fine for me. I know that I had the choice of downloading the new tunes, and because I was anxious to hear them I did, but looking at it now, I feel kind of silly for doing it. Seeing BulletRiddled's comment that we'll have a 1/4 of the album before its release made me sad. It's similar to the way I felt when I would snoop around the house and find my presents before Christmas Day. Big let down. That's just my thoughts of the moment.

Who really cares? If it's getting The Hip noticed, good for them. When IVL and Music @ Work came out people complained about how MuchMusic and the such ignored their videos and the albums didn't get as much support. I disagree with the Puretracks thing because it's targeting a very small audience and seems kind of pointless, but the Labatt promotion will hopefully be helpful.

Hey kstashuk,

What are the chances you could rip the new track to mp3 and upload to the 100th meridian ftp? I bet there's a bunch of us who'd like a little preview...especially those who don't like Labatt Blue.

why is it that the best prizes/contests are always associated with the absolute WORST beer in the world??
