I am really how all alot of you are complaining about the beer. Try being suck here in Michigan with all the crappy U.S. beers. Then you are forced to load up on good Canadian beer at the duty free on the way over.
You think Blue is bad, try the Blue version here, its not as good, and not as strong.

There's no way I'm falling for this one. I'm not going to buy a case of beer that tastes like dishwater for a 1/4 chance I'll get something I'll like. The CD is out in less than a month anyway.

Wow!!! Why is everyone ripping on Blue? It's one of the best damn beers out there. I've been a Blue drinker since I was 16. The Hip have done several things with Labatt. They played that Salt Lake City Show, a private concert a few years ago for some lucky bastards who won tickets through a 24, and even Heksenketel... according to Gord Sinclair, ARA '93 was endorsed by Labatt Genuine Draft. As far as the enitre promotion goes, I'm not surprised... who didn't see this album as being massively promoted. It's new territory for the Hip, but if they continue to follow this trend we can look forward to KIA car commercials to the tune of 'Inevitability of Death', a Hip DVD by October, and come Christmas we can all head down to Toys'r'us for our VERY OWN Gord Downie bobblehead.

The only 2 thingz I'm wishin from this are a live DVD and all the gigz up for grabbzz for download....I think Gord was bullshittin about that Labatt G.D. sponsoring ARA wasn't he??
I will not give up. My face is set,my gait is fast,my goal is heaven,my road is narrow,my way is rough,my companions are few,my guide is reliable,my mission is clear. I cannot be bought, compromised, detoured, lured away, turned back, diluted or delayed. I will not flinch in the face of sacrifice, hesitate in the presence of adversity, negotiate at the table of the enemy, ponder at the pool of popularity,or meander in the maze of mediocrity. I will not give up,shut up or slow down....Blessed Be!

You folks are taking this way too seriously. I'm not a fan of the whole beer promotion thing either, but believe it or not, the Hip's music has been available in cases of beer long before their new management took over. If I remember correctly, Blow at High Dough, Little Bones, and Courage were all available at one time or another on special beer CDs and cassettes. I think I still have the Molson Canadian Little Bones tape in a box somewhere in my parents' basement.
The interesting thing about the Hip is that they enjoy a lot more freedom than most other bands in their position. They're as "indie" as you could possibly get without actually being on an indie label. I worked at a record store in Ottawa for a while and I remember having a conversation with our Universal rep about the Hip and the way in which they operate. She described the Hip as being "their own animal", and that the label won't do a single thing without first getting the band's consent. She mentioned that unlike the majority of artists on Universal, the Hip have "full creative control" over their music, their image, and the way they tour. Long story short, the Hip have earned enough industry clout over the years that record company weasels tremble in their presence...and rightfully so.
So folks, have no fear. The Hip are not anything like Theory of a Nickelcreed. Not even fucking close. From what I've gathered, the Hip's label and their management can't make them do squat. The band was obviously ok with the beer promotion, otherwise they wouldn't have done it.
Can't wait to hear the new album. Wake me when it's June 29th!
Cheers,
Casey

I am a firm hater of Labatt Blue. Thankfully I have some buddies who work at the Beer Store who are able to umm... 'obtain' items from the cases. SARS-stock tix were the big perk last summer, looks like the HIp on cd will be the big perk this summer

As an aside, Blue does in fact suck. Check out www.ratebeer.com for some good beers. Blue is rated in the 12th percentile of all beers in the world which basically means it blows.
