(C)Raptors
#1

That crowd last night made it almost impossible to believe that the leafs call that same arena home.

Let's go Raptors ! !

God Bless You, Sir.

It's hard to believe that they can be owned by the same people, but the Raptors are just infinitely more likeable than the Leafs.

And I'm a Leafs fan. They're just not likeable.

It's not the team I hate. It's their fans. (AND THE MEDIA!)

that crowd rocked!
i agree...there's just something about sam mitchell, about cb-4, about all the guys that put on that uniform (vince aside, maybe) that's likeable.

great win last night...and great freaking crowd!

can't wait to get to a Raps game...especially after being to a Hawks vs. Knicks game in Atlanta last year...those teams both suck, but the atmosphere was still great, so i'd imagine it'll be x10 at the ACC!

the future looks bright in Raptor land :jump:!

Well, you see the difference a GM makes. The Raptors have a competent GM for the first time in their history and the whole culture of losing attitude has changed. Now, they may not even make the playoffs this season but they are still headed in the right direction. Colangelo got rid of a lot of the trash and now they have a good PG who isn't afraid to pass (unlike ballhog me me me Mike James), a legitimate threat at the #4 spot (CB), and some bench players that can actually come into the game and contribute.

Switching gears, my Suns signed Jalen Rose, an ex Raptor. I don't know exactly why they signed him though. He can't play defense and the Suns already have enough shooters. Anyway, hopefully he can give the Suns some good minutes.

Jalen is a good player, never quit on the Raps...but he'll be a great bench player for the Suns IMO...

I just finished watching Steve Nash drop 42 and 13 on the Nets and hit clutch shot after clutch shot in a, brace yourselves, 161-157 hootenanny (SP?) of a game. No D was played but it was an exciting up and down affair that went to two overtimes. Sorry, I am still in shock at how well Nash played down the stretch. Anyone who just looks at his stats doesn't fully appreciate how valuabe he is to the Suns. He is the catalyst for everything. Without Nash, there is no cohesion, no ball movement, nothing. Anyone who thinks he didn't deserve MVP honours needs to watch him play and not just look at his stats (which are outstanding anyway). Nash navigates the ship. The Suns have other very good players but they need Nash. Without Nash, you would have:

- Marion heaving up ill conceived 3 pointers and missing every clutch shot he takes
-Nobody to get the ball to STAT
-Raja Bell without all his open looks would struggle because he can't create his own shot (much like Marion)
-Diaw would be a good facilitator but without Nash on the floor he couldn't be as creative
-STAT would miss all the screen and roll layups and dunks
-Barbosa would play a lot and score a lot but turn the ball over consistently and make boneheaded plays at crunch time

What a game! What a player! :thumb:

ps. Sorry I hijacked the Raps thread but I couldn't find a recent NBA thread. Big Grin

In less than one year, Bryan Colangelo has restored dignity to this franchise. Just goes to show how incompetent the previous GMs were.

no shit eh? here i was thinking it'd take years upon years to fix the Raptors...but it turns out all they needed was somebody actually capable of doing their job at the GM position...

For sure. The Raps aren't serious contenders for a title yet but the general concensus was that they would probably be hard pressed to make the playoffs this season. They are in an extremely weak conference but still, they are leading their division and are about .500, which is above expectations. Next year they'll probably improve even more. Whether they will seriously contend for a title in two years or so is anybody's guess but they are heading in the right direction. Colangelo drafted Bargnani and he looks like a keeper. Colangelo got rid of all the waste that didn't want to be here. He's a sure thing for Executive of the Year. Look at his offseason-- Parker has been good, Garbajosa has been good, he got Bosh locked up to an extension, he got rid of Arajo (sp?) and got Nesterovic who is an instant upgrade, Bargnani was drafted has been named Rookie of the Month at least twice this season.

I look at Colangelo as the Brian Burke of the the NBA. Neither guy has won a championship but they can revive a franchise. Burke went to Anaheim and started unloading the Federovs of the team. Colangelo was at the helm for some exciting Suns runs at a title but they fell a bit short. He came to Toronto and completely revamped the franchise.

Division champs, baby.

Funny thing: I didn't see any cars driving down Yonge with horns honking and Raptors flags flying.

Weird.
