Ok, so everytime I tell someone about The Hip and how excited I am to see them tour, I get the same response.....
First, they look at me like an idiot because I would travel all the way to New Orleans to see them.
And then they ask, "what kind of music do they play?".
I really don't like to categorize thier music. But for the sake of people who ask....how would you best describe it?

I always say a cross between Pearl Jam & Dave Matthews Band (I try and stick to popular bands so everyone can picture it).

In Orlando, when we were there for the House of Blues show, the playbill lists them as a Jam Rock band. I thought that was kind of odd...

I call them art-rock. I love that term. But then people say "what, like Radiohead?" and I have to say "no, it's art-blues-rock".

I also love the quote:

I have to wonder at how many that dislike DMB have ever seen them live? While I agree that they may not be the "head bouncing" style of the Hip they certainly are not "head banging" against the wall...
They are, however, VERY different from the Hip...

Fran, I love DMB records, but I saw him live and was so far from impressed, I never care if I see him live again.

I haven't liked DMB for a while, ever since their first album, but I can see a little similarity. REM, I haven't been a fan since around "Losing My Religion" came out. But I can see the comparison, both singers have that nasal quality and sound alike. However, I think Gord has a MUCH better voice than Stipe. I have heard comparisons to The Doors, and I think they're more like The Who and CCR
They have so many styles it's hard to pin them down.
