In Between Evolution

I'd love to see Vaccination Scar back in the rotation. Would be kinda fitting now, with the H1N1 vaccines and all! Think there's any chance they'll pull it out on this tour?

Keeping my fingers crossed!

It's not a very good song.... definitely the weakest on the entire album!

IBE is one of the band's best albums, period. I thought so when it came out and I continue to think so. The reason it is so underrated, apart from the general decline in the Hips' commercial standing (which means fewer people are paying attention), is its less-than-commercial *sound.* It has a rough spontaneity to the mix that I LOVE but isn't radio friendly (e.g., 'Makeshift') and some of the songs have a complexity to the lyric or melody (e.g., 'Summer,' 'Yer There') that also isn't radio-friendly. Sadly, these qualities are also wasted on a certain segment of the Hip's fanbase, too. Oh well.

Nashville is a much worse song than Scar.

Nashville scores a point for using the word "autodidact."

Scar is a half-developed song, though. It could have been a great song, hints at being a great song, but it never really gets there.

Makeshift is the one that sticks with me longest off IBE.

Why is Vacc "half-developed"? It is short, it is like a free-association poem, it doesn't really have a chorus, but god it's BEAUTIFUL!

Very little development on the melody. It ends very abruptly. Lyrically pretty good. Like most things on IBE (with a couple of exceptions), it feels like it's very close to being so amazingly awesome, but ends up being just good. But I still think that IBE is the best album since PP.

I think it sounded "half-developed" in the live setting, but I don't find that to be the case for the studio version. I don't hate the live versions of it, but they seem too rushed or something.

That about explains it.

IBE has some really good songs -- I think their best album since M@W -- but Scar ain't one of them.

LOVE IBE

Probably has some of Gord's best lyrics and I love the raw feel of the whole album. Only track I could go without is Gus

The studio version of "Gus" doesn't do much for me, but when they play it live it's an entirely different animal. The version from the Austin City Limits festival in 2006 is probably the best I've ever heard. Robby absolutely rips it up on that one. I love it.

Goes to show you differences of opinion, I think Scar and Gus are two of the best songs on IBE. The opening to Gus just has that classic Hip sound to it........love it!

Summer Is Killing Us...........now there is a song I could do without........
