The setlist can't really express how insane that show was for me....nice small venue, three new songs from IVL, amazing Hundredth Meridian...it was a fantastic show...this was also during the "im not going to sing NOIS properly" phase that Gordie went through...

Well in no order I think
ARA 93- Cause more than 10000 fans can't be wrong and Midnight Oil opening for the Hip is cool
Paradiso 02- Amsterdam and the Hip. Enough said
40 watt club 96- Record attendance of 20 at this show
Pittsburgh 06-This was a cool show and a great setlist too

I'd have to say my fav show was at the Toledo Zoo back in the summer of '98. Phantom Power had just come out so they played a lot of songs from that, as well as some other great ones like Flamenco and Little Bones. Gord was in one of those moods... I remember he did a thing where he evolved into a human from a monkey ("Look Ma, I'm evolving!").
They also played a show that same year in September at the Orbit Room in Grand Rapids, MI. That was insane... maybe 200 or 250 people going crazy. Call us pansies if you will, but my girlfriend and I had to go to the back of the crowd because there were too many people at the front of the stage going nuts. Half the crowd was three sheets to the wind. One dude was so drunk off his ass he was dancing with a table. And my dancing, I mean he had picked it up by it's base and was drunkenly swinging it around. I'm surprised no one got hit, but everyone was keeping a safe distance from him.

Would have to be the first time I saw them, 1992, Fully Completely tour at Massey Hall (second night). It was mind blowing to finally see them in concert.
We were first row of the stage right balcony, sitting right beside Paul and Rob's parents. I'll never forget, some bonehead from thesecond balcony dropped his binoculars and nailed Paul's father right in the knee as he had his leg resting on the brass rail................must have killed...........LOL)
Still picture the concert as if it was yesterday............basically pitch darkness, you heard the beginning of "Locked In The Trunk of a Car".........darkness all the way up till "brushing by the machine revving tension".........and BLAM ......all lights came on at once lighing up the entire place ......everyone on there feet......everyone singing.........that will be stuck in my memory forever........ :thumb:
Plus Gord pretending to smoke and read a magazine while singing Little Bones.................was the first time I really saw Gord in action aside from videos where he "seemed normal".... :? ..........it was part bizarre and part surreal to watch him for the first time on stage...................LOL

Mine would have to be Hummingbird Theatre, October 16, 2002. It was just a really cool venue. Citadel Hill, Halifax would be #2

My favorite tour was definitely the 5 shows in a row I saw for the Phantom Power tour.
1. Pearl Street Northampton, Ma
2. Hot Tin Roof, Martha's Vinyard (100 people approximately)
3. Hampton Beach Casino, Hampton Beach New Hempshire - hung out with Gord S and Johnny on the beach for the afternoon.
4. State Theatre, Portland Maine
5. Shugarbush Mountain, Warren Vermont
Best shows were
1. An Evening with in Toronto simply due to the number of rare/infrequently played songs.
2. December 13, 1993 - Phoenix Concert Theatre - Private fundraiser show for "Friends of Brian Eagleson". The only show I know of where they played Emergency.
3. Concert Hall - Toronto - July 3, 1991 Road Apples Tour - because I actually am able to remember just how totally out of control and awesome they were when they were just starting out. I still remember Gord shadowboxing during Fight, the new song "I Remember Buffalo" (Ouch), and the total chaos of On The Verge. I left the venue and it was like walking out of a sauna. Definitely one of the best shows I have been to by any band.

My fav would probably still be my first, 1991-08- 13, at the old Halifax Forum. Banquet style seating, with tables! Which we stood on for the whole show (my step dad and I). Our table withstood the night, but it was funny to watch others collapse under the weight of dancing at various points in the night.
It was carnage! Too bad there isn't a setlist on the site, I'd love to know what songs I heard!

Of the twelve I've seen, I think I'd put the most recent--Fort York #2--at or near the top: incredible setlist, plus an astonishing ten songs I'd never heard I've before ("38 Years Old" among them, obviously). The other contender is the Ottawa Bluesfest show from 2004: solid setlist, astonishing performance and the "Grace, Too" by which all future "Grace, Too"s will be measured.

I was at that show as well, it was amazing, that was a crazy week, Concert hall, Courtcliff park, and Ontario Place, pretty sure I saw 5 shows that week. It was great being young

I really liked them at the Whiskey, warming up for the IBE tour, but I was far too loaded to fully appreciate it, or to appreciate sneaking into the VIP section afterwards :o
I think my favorite was the first Roadside Attraction in Calgary, my first show. Liking the Hip turned into loving the Hip that night, it was an amazing vibe and the songs all came alive for the first time

June 2000, the 7th House in Pontiac MI. This was a special promo show for the release of MAW. The only way to get into the 300 seat venue was to be one of the first to buy the cd (the day it came out at certain record stores) or win tix from the radio station.
The show was unreal. Before the hip came out the audience was doing the wave and shouting the usual HIP HIP HIP! The coolest vibe I've ever experienced before a show.
The band came out and basically did 2 songs then paused while an 89X radio dj took questions from the audience. Gord answered most of the questions. Things like "what is Nautical about"? "What is Pidgeon Camera about"? etc... Then the questions where.... "Why don't you guys play "Wheat Kings anymore?" When Gord looked puzzled, Paul started it and the place went completely ape shit! I don't think Downie had to sing a single word, the crowd sung so loud and passionately!
Things only got better from there.....Many songs from MAW, and some fan suggestions...ie...Greasy Jungle and Eldorado....
Best show, maybe best show I've ever seen of any band anywhere.....certainly the best small venue show..

My favorite Hip show and best show period was a surprise show after the release of Henhouse at the Spectrum here in Montreal (5/11/96) Camp Outreach benefit. They announced the show that morning and we went and stood in line for hours. Luckily I was the 3rd to last person able to get tickets.
The guys came outside sporadically back and forth from the bus and chatted and signed some autographs. The atmosphere that night at the show was awesome.
Great setlist, and they played virtually the complete Henhouse album. No one knew the tunes as it was just released, but luckily I had recorded the album launch from the radio the night before so I was able to sing right along with Gord. :lol:

It has already been mentioned a few times, but Another Roadside Attraction 1993 is probably my favourite tour. Can't beat Gord with the full beard, and still a year or so away from picking up the guitar. He was a maniac that summer.
As for favourite show, my 1st hip show stands out as the best. 6th row Ontario Place Forum, August 3rd, 1991. I've ranted about this show in other threads, so I'll spare the keyboard, but anyone who has the bootleg, has a copy of my recording.
