Favorite Hip Tour Year or Even Show you have seen - eatmecompletely - 06-30-2006

With all the great shows that have been played over the past two months

I was wondering what is everyones Fav Hip Tour or Show

You can name the show, what was so great about or even just a tour year

Mine was 96 at the gardens

We all got tickets to sit in the Henhouse (hip used to raise money for Trillium by selling seats in a contest fashion right before the show, these seats are basically on the stage. (I was resting my Beer on the stage!)

I just remember Gord tap dancing during the pause in little Bones he was tap dancing on our heads it was phsycho

Curious to hear everyone elses great experiences

Good question. My favourite show was "An Evening With The Tragically Hip" at the ACC on December 23, 2000. Its my favourite because the night never seemed to end, and I didn't want it to. There were two sets with a short break in between. They just kept playing song after song after song. I think the final tally was well over 20 songs.

Favorite tour musically = Henhouse - great variety of songs, they pretty much only had four albums to pull from - great shows.

Favorite tour with friends = Phantom Power - We travelled around that summer/fall and hit a bunch of shows together as a group (4 of us - sometimes 12 of us) We saw them under a "beer tent" in pittsburgh - to college gyms - to outdoor weekend party's at Grape Jam - to Hammerstein in NYC - great memories.

Sounds like a killer trip, I remember roadside attraction and driving there from the summer camp i was working at (I didnt even tell anyone I going just got in my buddies car when he asked and took off) We got there just in time for Twist My Arm Great Show

Other amazing shows where the concert hall (Phantom Power preview) Queen Elizibeth Theatre and any show at Maple Leaf Gardens

Was there anything better than 50 mission cap played there for the ushers and usherettes!

11 of the 17 shows I've been to were on the 2004 tour -- so I HAVE to say that one. Travelling around and meeting awesome Hipbasers was the best year ever. I remember spending the night with one of my friends in Mr. Stephen Dame's parents basement after meeting him once and making roadtrip plans... it was craziness!

My fave show is probably the Philly show from that tour -- anyone who was there can back me up on that. Or the Ottawa show in Nov. 2004. First row was full of hipbasers!

Musically, I'd have to agree with you. Many of the songs that I've only seen performed once were at that show. My friend and I managed to sneak up from 40th row floors to the 6th that night. It's true about the feeling that it would never end. I believe the final tally was 31(!) songs.

Overall, though, my most memorable show was Feb. 2002 at Lee's Palace in Toronto. We stood in line in the rain for 5 hours, then another 2 hours in the upstairs lounge. The intimacy of the show was incredible, and even though it was the shortest concert I've seen them perform, the event as a whole resulted in my favourite live music experience to date.

I'd have to say Evening With Tour, Edmonton AB Nov 21,2000 it just seemed like the band put everyone in a trance, I was 10th row center, song after song after song, and I travelled to Calgary then to Stoon,so 3 gigs like that, but Edmonton is/was the best show hands down, but they always seem to Kick ass in Edmonton :thumb: it was a sight to behold!!!! Evening With Tour hands down, saw 2 or 3 shows on that one, and that was alot of songs. The Hamilton Dec.21/00 show is probably my favorite show of all time, as far as setlist and overall experience goes. My hometown London show Nov.27/04 is a close second, that was an amazing set as well and a really fun show. Although after the set we got at Fort York I may have to reconsider. Favorite place to have seen them was at the Hummingbird in 2002 what a great venue that was.

Never been to a show, but from the bootlegs I've heard, 2002 and especially 2006 are pretty rad.

EDIT: Evening With tour also. That one was amazing.

Best show- Day for Night Tour Washington DC the "Old" 9:30 Club
1995-10-20
(300 people max, 2 encores, stage was about 2 feet high with no one between the band and us)

Most Interesting Show - IVL Tour; Ferry Boat, Burlington, Vermont June '02 (found out I'd won tixs in the morning before work, was able to get the afternoon off and drove the 5 hours to get down for the show, perhaps there were 100-150 people on board) They fed us a nice selection of cold cuts once we got on board as well.......

Best show I've seen: Nov. 17, 2004 at Rexall Place....will never forget that fight with the microphone stand....man

Either the Henhouse tour of the Phantom Power tour. The first Winnipeg show for the Henhouse tour was the first time I saw The Hip. For the Phantom Power show in Winnipeg I think they played 9 songs off of the new album. In my opinion from listening to bootlegs these tours are when the band peaked as a whole live. Gord's rants were amazing (on Phantom Power a lot of it ended up on Coke Machine Glow), the band was really tight, Gord was singing well and the setlists were really good.

That's a tough question. Before this year I would've said the High Sierra show in Novato, California '98 (just outside San Francisco). It was my first time travelling across the border to see the band, it was outdoors, there were only about 500 people there, and the entire thing was absolutely magical. However, the current 2006 tour has changed my mind. Their performance at the Sasquatch Festival was hands down the best Hip show I've ever witnessed. Thanks to the crazy hail storm, we only got 8 songs, but I can safely say that out of all 23 Hip shows I've seen, that was by far the best 8 songs I've ever seen them deliver. It was incredible.
