Tragically Hip + Drugs??
#16

I thought I heard in an interview with the band for Phantom Power release and Poets video, that the weed in the fish tank was a kind of "shout out" to some store in Kingston, some sort of inside joke. I can't remember the details. I do recall an interview with Bobby during the ARA shows, about how he loved waking up in the morning (either day of, or day after the show), walking around the site, watching the hippies/gypsies set up shop, and the smell of cannabis in the air.
Not a big fan of using myself, but to each his own. I can't imagine anyone has a "problem" in the band with it, if in fact anyone is using. But hey if it works...look at Jimy Page, the man was stoned for 3/4 of the 70's and look at what he turned out in terms of music. Mind you, he can't remember what happened 10 minutes ago, but that's another story.

I wonder what Bill Hicks has to say on the subject:

I smoked two joints with the boys once. Then we hit several bongs from their copious collection. They even had a fancy bucket / gravity bong that we hit. Then they played me Emperor Penguin. Then I woke up.

A story that was in the papers in Saskatchewan about 15 years ago is when the boys had some weed fed-ex'd to their hotel in Saskatoon. A undercover RCMP delivered it to their room and someone got arrested. They then skipped Saskatchewan on their next tour, but all is forgiven now.

A rock band that likes to get high.
Come on you guys must be kidding.

The first time I saw poets I didn't notice the weed in the fish tank till the end. I said hold on a minute rewind.

Why does anyone care?

Why should the band have a "stance" on drugs and alcohol? Are they supposed to be role models?

I didnt mean stance on drugs, as in role models. I assumed pot use obviously but wonderd about LSD and stuff. I was just wondering, I dont really care either way.

I'll say this, Gord D looked FUCKED UP on something when they played SNL back in the day...

on the other hand though, he's ummmmm, a little bit, uhhh, "eccentric", shall we say, to begin with, so who knows, maybe he was just "high on life" and excited to be there, lol.

Heck think about….SNL live EST at 11:30PM. Band comes on a bit later. I can barely make it until early afternoon without chomping at the bit for a little Saturday fun.
