Sam Roberts Band: Love at the End of the World
#46

Good story Pat... thanks for sharing.

I'll hopefully be listening to it on the way to and from the TFC match tonight... but in the meantime I have a recording from their show at MTV on May 15 to keep me sated. If you need a fix, check the tracker now.

trevor Wrote:Yeah the album is quite good. No real stand-outs for me as of yet, just a solid listen from start to finish.

Agreed, although Lions of the Kalahari is really growing on me. I don't think this album is as good as Chemical City, but its still a really, really solid album. That opinion may change however, once I listen to it more.

Love at the End of the World, Them Kids (KOS Remix), and Oh Maria have been added to the band's MySpace page.

It's holding me over for now...until the album arrives!

I could not wait for my pre order to arrive so I borrowed a copy from the internet.
I just could not resist during this lull in new music releases.

Their new merchandise site is pretty cool:

Corby Wrote:I listened to it on my way home, and I love it. It really started off with a bang and had great flow that carried into the rest of the album. I'm no audiophile, but I'd say it has spectacular mixing/arrangements. It really adds to the power of the individual songs.

Damn rites!

Holy crap does it ever. Bob Rock needs to listen to this. And probably at least 80% of most producers.

I played this on my stereo and it gave me the same feeling I get when I listen to my favourite vinyls. It's warm. No bass overkill, the guitars are pushed up and Sam's voice is mixed juuuuuust right...

Can't wait to get this on vinyl. I'll wait till Sammy comes around to Winnipeg though. And damn if that won't be one fine vinyl cover with that kickass artwork...

Its not to bad, kinda a departure from what he's done before, which isn't a bad thing, It lacks that wicked Sammy bite though, pretty mellow for the most part.

I will not give up. My face is set,my gait is fast,my goal is heaven,my road is narrow,my way is rough,my companions are few,my guide is reliable,my mission is clear. I cannot be bought, compromised, detoured, lured away, turned back, diluted or delayed. I will not flinch in the face of sacrifice, hesitate in the presence of adversity, negotiate at the table of the enemy, ponder at the pool of popularity,or meander in the maze of mediocrity. I will not give up,shut up or slow down....Blessed Be!

As usual with him, I like a few songs and the rest all sounds the same to me. I'll give it a few more listens before dismissing it entirely, but I don't see it growing on me much. It's a shame, too, because I was pretty stoked after hearing the single.

It's a very solid album from start to finish, but other than "Them Kids", no other song really stands out for me yet. I've only listened to it a couple of times though, so I'm thinking this one's gonna be a grower. I need to absorb it some more.

I find it starts off really strong. About track 8 I start to lose my interest in it

Here is Sam's performance from last week on Much Music MOD.
Well at least I think it is - since I do not live in Canada and therefore cannot view it.

I just got this email from Umusic:

If you are in the Toronto area and want even more Sam, you're in luck! On Tuesday June 17th Sam Roberts will be doing a special performance and autograph signing at Toronto's HMV location on Bloor Street! Sam and the band are scheduled to take over around 1pm, so make sure you come down.

If your not around Toronto and missed your favourite rocker (or if you still haven't had enough) head on over to http://sportsnet.canadiannetstakes.com/c...fault.aspx to enter to win a chance to see Sam live in concert!

This record didn't grab me on first listen, but after a couple of weeks with it and a few dozen spins, I'm now of the opinion that it's one of the best albums of the year so far. I had a feeling this one was gonna be a grower, and I was right. I love it.

I'll second that, some of the songs that I found to be too slow/boring when I first listened to it have really grown on me huge. Can't wait to hear it live next week
