I love that. Great perspective.

that may be true, i just think the episode in general was weak

I like it. We were given the answers to all the questions and the ending was a shock. The cat was a cool way to show us that Pauly was the rat.

Not sure who wrote this:

** LETTER:

"WOW!!!! AMAZING!!!

OK, at first I was really angry. I mean really, really angry. I can't believe though that no-one has posted by now what happened. The only thing I saw that was right, was that in the last scene we are seeing through Tony's eyes. Remember when he was speaking with Bobby...basically saying that you don't see it happening?

So here is what I found out. The guy at the bar is also credited as Nikki Leotardo. The same actor played him in the first part of season 6 during a brief sit down concerning the future of Vito. That wasn't that long ago. Apparently, he is the nephew of Phil. Phil's brother Nikki Senior was killed in 1976 in a car accident. Absolutely Genius!!!! David Chase is truly rewarding the true fans who pay attention to detail.

So the point would have been that life continues and we may never know the end of the Sopranos. But if you pay attention to the history, you will find that all the answers lie in the characters in the restaurant. The trucker was the brother of the guy who was robbed by Christopher in Season 2. Remember the DVD players? The trucker had to identify the body. The boy scouts were in the train store and the black guys at the end were the ones who tried to kill Tony and only clipped him in the ear (was that season 2 or 3?).

Absolutely incredible!!!! There were three people in the restaurant who had reason to kill Tony and then it just ends. This was Chase's way of proving that he will not escape his past. It will not go on forever despite that he would like it to "don't stop". Not the fans!!! Tony would like it to keep going but just as we have to say goodbye, so does he. No more Tony and I guess we are supposed to be happy that Meadow didn't get clipped as well (she would have been between the shooter and Tony) since she is the only one worth a crap in that family.

Thank you David Chase for making it so obscure that I feel bad for hating you at first. Absolutely amazing!!!!"

it is an interesting take

for the record, I thought it ended in a good way, good song choice too.

I will not give up. My face is set,my gait is fast,my goal is heaven,my road is narrow,my way is rough,my companions are few,my guide is reliable,my mission is clear. I cannot be bought, compromised, detoured, lured away, turned back, diluted or delayed. I will not flinch in the face of sacrifice, hesitate in the presence of adversity, negotiate at the table of the enemy, ponder at the pool of popularity,or meander in the maze of mediocrity. I will not give up,shut up or slow down....Blessed Be!

i agree - sometimes there is no *ending* and sometimes it's just better that way

i don't think it shows us that pauly was the rat. the cat was initially looking at a picture of someone dead, christopher...someone tony killed. by accepting the new skipper position that pauly thinks is cursed, i think the cat staring at him showed us that he was next to die when he takes the new skipper position. a foreshaddow to what the future holds for him...

maybe i'm overeaching though...

from another board

**********************************

He was killed....

in fact, the ending was genius if you've paid attention to the show or are just a fan of well developed well thought out plots that all tie together and have the memory of a champ to remember it all

the ending was simple, he got killed, but let me tell yall why and explain in detail... There was 3 people in the room total who had a reason to kill tony.....

the two black guys, they were paid before to kill tony but he was only shot in the ear, this was in one of the earlier seasons,

also in the earlier seasons, the trucker who was sitting at the bar stool, who the camera kept focusing in on, is Nikki leotardo, Phil Leotardos nephew, he was in one of the early season episodes where Phil and Tony have a sit down....

heres where the genius comes in....

When tonys walking in the diner, you see the camera focus on him, then it switches to his perspective, and you see him looking @ the booth hes gonna sit at...

then the camera switches back to tonys face, then it once again switches to his perspective, and it shows him looking @ the door and looking @ the people come in..... Everytime the door opens the Chimes sound....... Carmela walks in, Chimes, AJ walks in Chimes, this when Meadows parallel parking, still trying to get inside the restaurant....

at this point the camera switches back to the trucker who goes in the bathroom......

Then it goes to a scene where meadow finally parks and starts running in the diner....

the doors about to open, Tony looks up....

and No Chimes......................

No Music............

Everything just goes black...............

In one of the early episodes of the sopranos, tonys talking with bobby about what it must feel like to die..

Bobby says "at the end, you probably dont hear anything, everything just goes black"

part of that was revisited in the second to last episode during the last seconds of it, when tonys about to go to sleep and he flashes back to the memory of him and bobby on the boat... "You probably dont hear anything everything just goes black"

so in the end, the Journey song was playing, the chimes on the door sounded but when meadow came in, the guy in the trucker hat came out and killed tony...

its the reason you aint hear, or see shite when he died.... it was from his perspective.... and everything went black, then the credits rolled."

After stewing on it a bit today, that is my sentiment.

Tony's death seemed inevitable early on in the series, and I thought it would be a fitting end to the story. We got to see what leads up to a hit throughout the series, little guys, big guys, and for many different reasons. We saw Junior's downfall. But the big picture is of Tony, and the whole story was perhaps the telling of his hit; what led up to it (if indeed one believes him to be dead.)

It would definitely be more dignified to not truly witness it, or witness it as he would, as fans of the show have grown attached to this character, and do empathize for him, despite his nature. It certainly is more powerful.

Now, just got to set aside $500 for the DVDs.

maybe I'm overreaching though...

When the Soprano Mafia family "went to the mattress" a stray cat showed up at the flop house. Normally they would throw the cat out but they let him it stay because it was a killer. The superstitious gangsters (Pauly didn't need to tell them, they already knew) even brought the cat back to The Ba Da Bing. The cat sat on the table and starred at a memorial photograph of Christopher. Pauly the only one freaked out by that. Why did Tony say It was probably just looking at a dead rat in the wall? Christopher was the Heir Apparent. Christopher was the youngest member of the "family" and he did not respect the old ways. One example was his disrespect of Tony in CLEAVER. He was telling the world about the mob. The Italians call it "this little thing of ours." He didn't know when to shut his mouth so Tony shut it for him.

Pauly couldn't shut his mouth. We were told he was like that because he never found a wife and had a family of his own. Pauly suspected Tony was going to whack him on the fishing boat. He knew that Tony didn't trust him anymore. We saw the old photograph of him in his prime. Back in the days when everyone respected him. Back in the days when everyone respected the Italian Mob. Even the old neiborhood had shrunk to a single block surrounded by the new American immigrants.

The Sopranos was about the American family. White Anglo-Saxon Protestant gangsters are called politicians. All the rest, all the immigrants are called criminals. Organized crime provides a economic platform for impoverished people to establish themselves in American society. Tony Jr. was a typical spoiled American teenager. Meadow is an average American law student who will marry into a respectable vanilla American family. The children have become established because of their hard working Mom and Dad. It is all about family.

Pauly was a dead rat. He knew it. Tony knew it. The cat knew it.
